I personally do not think so. Any kind of pirate would be easily caught with todays helicopters, fast-moving ships, and police boats. Al the victim has to do is call for help, and usually someone will be there in a few hours.

Well, of course Jack Sparrow is real! He lives in my backyard!

Haha, just kidding. Yes, there are modern day pirates, but they don't have the big, wooden ships and they generally don't use swords. They're not looking for any gold or "treasure." They have more modernized boats, they could even have something like a speed boat. They are basically gangs, and they often attack other boats and take money/valuable items. They're pretty rare, so nothing you have to worry about.

yes, there are still pirates, but not exactly the traditional type of pirate. they are generally in open water and they rob/kill people on boats that they can outrun. pirates now are generally on fast boats and have guns. if you go on a cruise or something, you won't ever see pirates. as long as you're in protected water (places where you would go on vacation are protected) then you are fine. pirates are not really a big threat anymore because most water is protected. it is sort of a gang on a boat, but it's not something that most people who are on the water a lot have to worry about.

I personally don't think pirates are real, nor do I think they actually do things, but I guess they're still around. WoahThereBabe said it. There was some huge story on the news about how they hijacked someone's boat. Basically, your friend is right. It's like, the crips or the bloods on a boat claiming & fighting for sea territory.

Yes, there are still pirates today. There was something on the news awhile back on how someone on a boat got attacked by a pirate gang. They basically hijack boats, kill people, and rob them. They are still around.

Yes, but obviously not the traditional kind in big wooden boats.
