Do laxatives really make you lose weight? does it stay off. i know its not healthy but can former lax. abusers tell me their results. and the pros and cons.
Why? Because you just "dumped" OUNCES from your body that only last until drinking fluids filling your stomach that weighs ounces, thus zeroed out the laxative's job. Then eating, gains you ounces, and you have had no effect on your weight.
So why bother?
Laxatives are physically additive to your body. Taking laxatives when not constipated, causes your colon to DEPEND on laxatives and not function on it's own. Laxatives also upset your lower instines, colon and overall bowel functions, causing dependency.
Never use laxatives unless you are constipated without a daily movement (medical health professionals state we should have 2-3 per day, but we rarely do because of the junk foods we eat)...
If you want to loose weight, then be smart. Stop the junk foods entirely. Stop drinking sodas and junk.
Drink 2% (or less) milk and plenty of water, whether the water source is plain or bottled water, tea, Crystal Lite (it's low-cal and made with water) or Koolaid. If you drink sodas, drink diet sodas.
Dietary: Skinned chicken broiled or baked (not fried), fish (not fried), plenty of veggies, cooked or raw, and potatoes without butter, (not french fries) using low-cal Ranch or whatever, raw veggies dipped in low-cal Ranch or your choice, low-cal sour cream, etc. fruits, heart-healthy cerals with 2% milk, and salads with low-cal dressings.
Exercise and be active. Not a couch-potato.
Get a good night's sleep, minimum 8 hours of quality sleep-- no staying up late and getting up early for school or work.

If you are wanting to loose weight, as an alternative you could go to the gym or see your GP or a dietician about a suitable diet to suit your body. [ x_s_a_r_a_h_x's advice column | Ask x_s_a_r_a_h_x A Question ]

All they do is speed up the flushing out process. So It won't help you lose weight that you wouldn't have lost anyways. So It might help you lose a pound or two right away, but it will just come back as soon as you eat again. [ chuckweed007's advice column | Ask chuckweed007 A Question ]

can be deadly. Here is a list of complications you can expect from laxative abuse.
Medical Complications of Laxative Abuse
The medical complications of laxative abuse depend on several factors, including the type of laxatives used, the amount used, and how long they have been used. Some of the more common complications of laxative abuse follow.
Constipation. Repeated use of laxatives actually causes constipation. This may lead people to increase the dosage of the amount of laxative, which in turn only worsens the constipation problem.
Dehydration. Laxatives cause fluid loss through the intestines. Dehydration then impairs body functioning. (can cause death)
Electrolyte abnormalities. Many people who abuse laxatives often demonstrate electrolyte imbalances. Electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, and chloride are important to life functions. With chronic diarrhea, electrolytes are drawn out of the body through the feces. This leads to an electrolyte imbalance in the body.
Edema. As noted before, laxatives cause fluid loss. Dramatic changes or fluctuations in fluid balance confuse the body's self-regulating protective mechanisms by retaining fluid. As a result, prolonged laxative abuse frequently leads to fluid retention or edema. (edema means swelling)
Bleeding. People who abuse laxatives, especially the stimulant-type laxatives, can develop blood in their stools. Chronic blood loss associated with laxative abuse can lead to anemia.
