Why woulld anyone want to pretend to be pregnant?

i've seen something on tv about that, and it was about this woman who had serious mental issues. i'm not sure exactly why she pretended to be pregnant, but she was messed up in the head. also, i've seen people on oprah pretend to be pregnant/fat and go to a new high school to see how people treat them.

Some unscrupulous women use a fake pregnancy to not only garner the sympathies of those around her (they'll often ask "how do you feel" and offer help to a pregnant woman), but also to try to keep a partner in a relationship if she thinks he may go otherwise. It doesn't happen very often, but some women 'trap' the man with a real or faked pregnancy and then, if it's faked, they fake a miscarriage as well.

They are either mentally ill, or acting in a play.

There are two logical reasons for this.
One, is that people just want a baby really bad that they would pretend to be pregnant.
Or two, just to mess with people or shock people. (Haha, sounds like something I would do.) But many schools are discriminative against pregnant teen students, so I have seen TV shows where a girl pretends to be pregnant to see the teacher and student reactions and see how differently they would be treated if they were. Sort of like a research project.
