Love's Philosophy
by Percy Bysshe Shelley
The fountains mingle with the river,
And the rivers with the ocean;
The winds of heaven mix forever,
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one another's being mingle;--
Why not I with thine?
See! the mountains kiss high heaven,
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister flower would be forgiven,
If it disdained it's brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea;--
What are all these kissings worth,
If thou kiss not me?
KellyHappy answered Monday April 30 2007, 8:40 pm: hes asking a girl why she doesnt love him.
he gives examples of nature of how all these things love eachother and touch all the time, and "kiss" eachother. and how nothing in the world is single and alone.
he then asks her why is the world so full of love that it touches and kisses, but she wont kiss and love him and why hes all alone without the world.
Ashumms answered Monday April 30 2007, 8:30 pm: He's talking about what love is all about. He's basically asking what is the world worth if he's not with this girl. [ Ashumms's advice column | Ask Ashumms A Question ]
CHECKERED-LOVE answered Monday April 30 2007, 8:12 pm: It's about how everything in nature and the universe is linked to something else as if its working in harmony. Like one couldn't exist without the other. The "sunlight clasps the Earth" is just showing linkage between the different elements of the earth.
