If your class is large (as I suspect it might be, knowing most undergrad psych classes) then a lot of the ideas below won't work... you won't want to photocopy 1000 quizzes!

Try focusing more on the personal aspect. Really get into what it's like to have epilepsy. Add a little drama into it. Try to get them to imagine being in that situation. People respond a lot more to emotional ties than to hard facts.

When I make a presentation, I usually make a note sheet for them, or a quiz about the topic. I don't grade the quizzes, but it's just fun to know they're paying attention. Try to make your presentation funny naturally. Any forced jokes & you'll sound corny/lame. If you can make them laugh, you'll keep them interested. Good luck with the presentation!

Anytime I have a huge presentation, I do this and it's really fun and it gets people to pay attention. Here's what you do:

Let's say there are 20 people in your class. Take twenty notecards and write an action on it that has to do with presenting your information and give one to each person in the class. Also, you need to write on the card the phrase that the previous card has on it, so the actions are all connected.

To start the presentation, you'll have the first notecard and, just as an example, you'll say "This is a presentation on epilepsy."

Next, whoever has the card that says "After someone says 'This is a presentation on epilepsy" you stand up and say "This presentation was done by so and so'"

And so on and so forth. It's a continuous chain of people doing or saying whatever their notecard says. They have to pay attention so they'll know when it's their turn to read. Whenever I make my presentations like this, I always throw in something funny and make a person stand up and do a jumping jack or something.

If you have any questions or if I confused you just let me know!
