Apparently, I'm really fake.

Question Posted Wednesday April 25 2007, 9:00 pm

15/f (16 in a month)

For years, I've dyed my hair, dressed nicely and worn make-up. I've always tried to be a nice person, but everyone knows not to mess with me.

Recently, my "best friends" and I got into a fight. Now it's three against one and they keep saying I'm fake. I don't think appearance makes a person fake, it's what's inside. I'm not an idiot either, I have a 4.0 GPA and I work hard for that.

I don't know what makes a person fake. When I'm around them they just laugh and pretend to be happy (quite fakely) and talk behind my back. I always say how I feel right to people's faces.

Is there anyway I can prove I'm not fake? What makes a person fake? Should I just ignore them? They are like.. harassing me with this though. They are also ganging up on my other best friend and they keep making her cry. I really want to stand up to them. I always say things right to their faces, should I continue this?

Thanks, all insight and advice is greatly appreciated! =)

I honestly don't think your fake. You do what you want, and you know who you are.

Being fake would classify you as the type who talks shit about someone & then acts nice to their face. Or being friends with someone & talking shit about them. Or just lying about everything & always making up stories. THAT is being fake.

Just continue being yourself & ignore them. They've obviously got no life & a ton of time on their hands.

No. You are not a fake. Yes. You are right in saying they are.

Being a fake is being someone you aren't.
Being a fake is wearing two faces.

You do not need to prove to these jerks that you aren't fake like they are.
Yes, you should ignore them.

They are harassing you because you get up in their face about it- they know it bothers you and they find that highly entertaining.

They gang up on your best friend because they know they can make her cry- they find this highly entertaining, also.

Both you and your friend need to try to just blow off the things they say. Try to keep in mind that they aren't worth wasting your time, breath, or tears, for that only gives them satisfaction.

Coloring one's hair and putting on makeup and dressing well does not make one fake in the same way that painting something made of wood does not make it less wood. Expressing yourself through color and fashion is expressing YOURSELF. Whatever they want to say, they're just taking the fight and rather than talking about what went on, they're turning it to this made-up character flaw of yours.

If you are consistent in your treatement of people whether they're in the room or not, if you are honest about your opinions but express them appropriately, then you are not fake. They're just picking something they think you can't argue with. It is better to have a wig, color contacts, false eyelashes, makeup, a spray-on tan, a push-up bra, fake piercings, and fake tattoos if they express who you really are than to be disingenuous with people and treat your friends like crap behind their backs. So whatever.

So these three are not genuinely your friends and if they can't look beyond your appearance to see the beauty inside, you are better off with your other best friend and maybe a few new ones. If this is the way they want it to be, let them see how real you are when you turn your back and walk away from people who are hypocrites.

There's probably a boy that likes you or something,
but the point is, they're jealous.
They're attacking your other friend because they know it bugs you.
Just ignore them, if you keep you GPA at 4.0, you can do whatever the heck you want to.
