AskJR answered Wednesday April 25 2007, 9:04 am: Google "ballads" and that's the best bet.
Sheryl Crow had alot of songs with stories.
Carole King did too.
But then again, Collective Soul, Pearl Jam, Smile Sweet Soul and Shinedown have great lyrics-- all stories.
Google lyrics. Go through the A -Z list of artists, and read lyrics by everyone and anyone. You'll find a "story type" song right for you. [ AskJR's advice column | Ask AskJR A Question ]

~ Jesus Take the Wheel
~ Don't forget to Remember me
~ Before he Cheats
~ I Ain't in Chacotah anymore
Jesus Take the Wheel tells a story about a girl who is a Christian, but starts to lose her faith in God, so one night on Christmas Eve she almost hits another car... but then she asks Jesus to take the wheel and save her and her daughter's life.
Don't forget to remember me tells a story of a girl who is just moving out and leaving to college and her and her mother are both going through a pain because of it.
Before he cheats is a story where her boyfriend cheats on her and she explains what happens through her experience.
I ain't in Checotah anymore tells a story about how her life changed since she was famous and before she was famous etc.
Maybe YOU could write a song about something that happened in YOUR life. Because those end up being the best...
Maybe right about this...
- A past relationship
- Something or someone you miss
- Or a dream of yours
OR EVEN SOMETHING CHEESY AND WEIRD!
Hope I helped,
