Basically, I want to loose 20lbs by the end of school. Right now, I'm 16/f and weigh 151lbs and 5'6. I would like to weigh 130-135. So far I've been eating::
Breakfast- Oatmeal, Bannana, Diet Iced Tea.
Snack- Grannola bar
Lunch- Turkey Sandwhich, Yogurt, Carrots
Snack- Strawberry's, or some sort of fruit.
Dinner- A Lean Cousine Or Healthy Choice. (under 400 calories)
Every Day or so I also take a walk, or work out for forty minutes and then lift weights.
am i doing everything correctly? Do you think I can loose enough weight by the end of school? And what kind of foods should I add to my diet, if there are any?
That's to dispel some of what was previously said.
Oatmeal has a lot of carbs, but also a good amount of protein and fiber and it is a very slow digesting carb source. This is good.
Way too many carbs with not enough fat or protein is your main problem. If you're lifting weights you are going to need a lot of protein- especially if you're trying to lose weight. Chicken, eggs, fish are the best sources and don't forget that in order for protein to be assimilated into the system effectively- it needs enough fat to facilitate that. So when you have eggs don't just have egg whites (unless you have a cholesterol problem) there's a lot of healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and protein in the yolk for it to just be thrown away.
As far as 20 pounds by the end of school, I suggest you forget about doing it for that reason and do it for the right reason- to be healthier. Besides, what do you plan to do once this 20 lbs is lost? If you plan on keeping it off or progressing even further then it's going to have to become a lifestyle or else the vicious cycle will keep repeating and you'll find yourself always trying to lose weight. ThEDaRkEsTSiDe answered Monday April 23 2007, 8:50 pm: Your definitley on the right track.. for breakfast, oatmeal is the way to go, it's loaded with vitamins and minerals, and doesn't contain alot of carbs. For some day's though, instead of diet iced tea for breakfast, allow yourself a glass of orange juice, and pour the serving size listed on the back so you know the exact amount of calories and carbs your taking in. Diet tea and diet sodas are actually pretty bad for your bones and teeth.. with moderation it's not bad for you though. For your lunch, make sure you use whole wheat bread, and not white bread. White bread is chemically bleached, and also contains fatty starches and a massive loss of nutrients compared to wheat breads. I notice you've said your lifting weights too, so if i could make any more suggestions, pack some protein in your diet! Non-breaded chicken is an excellent source of protein, and with minimal carbs too. You can also try egg whites, so you don't get the cholestrol from the yolk, but you still get a large amount of protein. Also, make sure along with fruits, you eat a large amount of vegetables to keep your musules lean :] V8 tomato juice is actually a great source of vitamins and minerals, and one full serving is equal to a full serving of a vegetable for the day too. Celery is also a great thing to eat. Believe it or not, if you eat celery, you actually burn off more calories than you would have if you didn't eat any. Yes, it's actually a "negative calorie" food! As for your excersizing, running is one of the best excersizes that you can do for your body. You build musule running, whilst you burn fat and calories when looking at the cardiovascular point of view of it. After your run, it's great that your lifting weights. Make sure though, that you stretch before, and after your run so you don't end up cramping up, and so you don't pull any musules. Anyways i wish you plenty of luck loosing weight, and make it a fun thing to do instead of a priority! Listen to music, and run with friends or family if you like. Good luck! :D [ ThEDaRkEsTSiDe's advice column | Ask ThEDaRkEsTSiDe A Question ]
lilxxcrystalxxbv answered Monday April 23 2007, 7:42 pm: yes. that is a healthy meal plan for the day. make sure you get the reccommended servings of water, [8 cups] since it is a vital part in the human body's health. make sure to cut out soda, and juices like gatorade. [ if you want juices, it should be the orange juice, grape juice, etc. type juices] the soda and juices could be whats keeping you back from being as healthy as you could be. also, during your work out, you should run for at least 20 minutes. running is a very good excersize and helps in the cardiovascular system. 20 minutes is what you need to run or jog in order to get at your maximum beats per minute- which i learned in health today- is what you'd want to be at, and gradually that beats per minute goes down as you're used to the running. =D hope i helped. ImHere2MakeAdifference answered Monday April 23 2007, 7:02 pm: First you need to ask yourself, are you loosing weight for your self, Like to make you healthier,or so you can fit a certain image. I believe that everyone wants to loose weight some point in their life and not to stress over it. Eating healthy is very important, and if you do that and excerise you will loose weight, I see your diet looks healthy, but is that what you want to eat. Basically you can eat what ever you want too, as long as it is in moderation. If you it whatever you want and then decied to diet and only eat certain foods, when you become that weight your gonna wanna go back to what you were eating, and gain it back alot quicker. So just eat in moderation and excrise and you will do great!! And to answer your question about loosing 20 pounds befor the end of school, it really depends on how much school you have left.. Well I hope I help you out

lbwhite89 answered Monday April 23 2007, 6:58 pm: That's really good, but make sure you drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. Only have that tea for dinner or breakfast...just once a day. Water is better for you...even if it's flavored. [ lbwhite89's advice column | Ask lbwhite89 A Question ]
