There have been rumors at my school that there will be a school shooting tommorrow, as it is the anniversary of Colombine. I know that many schools are having rumors such as this circulated, and that it probably won't happen. However, I don't feel safe going to school tommorrow. I'm terrified. My mother is making me go; she refuses to listen to me when I say that I'm scared. How can I convince her?

if you really are terrified of going, then you should tell your mom again. get her into a room that ther is no distractions for her and tell her everything. from the rumors to saying that you dont feel safe. ask her if she could call the office and tell them. make sure not to start yelling, or "talking back" haha. say that you will make up your work, and that you really hate going to school, but you are just so terrified.
also, it is very unlikely that you will get shot, or that a person will bring a gun to school. someone could have just started that stupid rumor just to scare people.

There are hundreds of students in your school, and the most that have ever died in one shooting was 32. That's the most recent one at the Virginia Tech. 32 out of all the students on the campus were shot. That is a small percentage of people who got shot. Besides, the most likely person to be shot in a classroom is the teacher. He or she is the one in charge of the classroom, and on top of that he or she is standing. That should give you enough time to hide under your desk or something, if there is ever an EXTREMELY RARE case of a shooting.

Okay, that's an irrational way of telling me that a shooting will happen at your school. I don't understand why an individual would be so swayed from a mere RUMOR. You don't really know that a shooting is ACTUALLY going to happen. Besides, if you don't have hundreds of students at your school, there's even less likely of a chance that one of your fellow classmates is a raging nutcase.
If a shooting really happens at your school, then I'll apologize with my forehead touching the ground. But giving me a 1 for my logical response is way too unfair. You can at least negate the score on my account.

Well it seems like I'm being called a "retard" for my logical advice. Still being called a "retard" by someone who has no evidence to back the "high probability" of a school shooting and having my advice still receiving a low rating irritates me.
"American students have only one chance in two million of getting killed on school grounds."
So let's calculate that. Grab your calculator. Divide 1 death over 2,000,000. You'll end up with 0.0000005, which is 0.00005%. Wow, school shootings must happen a lot... NOT.
"The probability of being struck by lightning is 1 in 600,000."
This means that there is a 0.0001666% chance of being hit by lightning. Which means that you actually have a much better chance that you'll be struck by lightning than by a school shooting.
