I go in there and tan & whatnot, and the bed automatically turns off when your time is up. The temperature is already set. It's not like in movies how the girl always has to turn a knob, it's already set for you, so you really don't have to do anything at all. You don't have to wear a bathing suit, a lot of people go naked when they go tanning because of tanlines. If you want to though, that's fine. The two options that the lady probably gave you were bed or booth. A booth is where you stand up in, and personally I think that it works better. It's not as scary as it looks. I was freaked out when I first stepped into one, but it's not bad once you get the hang of it. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
You won't turn orange from using a booth/bed, but you might turn orange if you get a spray on tan.
If you don't want to come out the same as you were before, you might want to ask the lady at the front desk what's the longest time that you should tan for your skin tone. You might have to go a few times before you see drastic results if you have really fair skin.
clouded_bluee answered Thursday April 19 2007, 5:50 pm: First--you can go naked. Most people do, because bathing suits leave lines. Spray tans make you orange, usualy not the actual tanning beds. The tanning beds are set already, but if you don't know ask her to show you how to use the bed, because all tanning places have different beds. But normally they are at a normal temperature, good for everyone. The bed will atomatically go off. Because you will tell the person at the desk how long you want the tan to last. Then you will have 5 or so minutes to get your lotion on and undressed, and it will atomatically start. Some people don't get results right away. But always wear eye googles, and I recamend you go in for 8-10 minutes the first time in the normal bed so you don't get burnt. Have fun & hope I helped ! Don't feel dumb or embarrased to ask. There are two tanning options. One is a mystic tan, and the other is a tanning bed. Personally, tanning beds are most likely going to give you the tan that you want, not turn your orange. You can't really adjust the tempature, but you can pick which bed to go in. There is regular, ultra [ higher ] & mega which is a bronzing bed. Since it's your first time, go for about 10 minutes. You might get a little hot in there but there are fans so make sure you turn those on & also buy lotion at the place. Be sure not to use an outside tanning lotion. The next time you go tanning, go for about 15 minutes & the next, 20 & continue going 20 because you'll already be used to it. When you tan, the bed will show how many minutes you'll be tanning and whenever you're done, the lights will turn off and you'll know. [ Teza's advice column | Ask Teza A Question ]
HCOxBABE answered Thursday April 19 2007, 4:51 pm: Tell the people who are working that it's your first time tanning & they will run you through on how to use the bed. Whatever you do, don't go in the tanning bed for longer than ten minutes your first time because you'll burn very badly. You know when it's done because at the front, they'll ask you how many minutes you want & they'll set it on the computer. Your bed will turn off automatically right after the minutes you asked for. You don't have to wear anything when you're in the bed but i usually wear underwear because it hurts really bad if you get burned on your lower back. I would recommend the stand up bed because I don't like laying down where other people have layed but whatever works for you, use whatever you want but I wouldn't recommend The Mystic Tan because there's a chance you'll turn out orange. Oh & definetly don't forget your tanning goggles. If you need some than buy some, they're very cheap. If you don't wear them, you can damage your cornea & can eventually become blind. Have fun, I love tanning & I'm sure you'll love it, too. [ HCOxBABE's advice column | Ask HCOxBABE A Question ]
