Immediate help...NOW.
There is someone in my house. The phoneline is dead and I am typing very carefully so he doensnt hear me. I don't know what to do my heart is beating out of my chest. I'm on the third floor, i don't recognize the car outside and there's a huge racket downstairs. HELP

Just for future reference, it usually takes a few hours for questions to get processed through advicenators, so urgent questions aren't so good.
If that ever happens again (not likely), hide somewhere, like behind the lowest row of clothes in a walk-in closet. If you hear the person coming upstairs and you don't have time to hide, get in a bed and pretend you're asleep so they won't think you're a witness- it increases your survival chances.
For the future, I recommend buying a prepaid cell phone- there's no monthly fee, just one flat rate for a certain amount of minutes. When home alone, carry it around with you.

IM a close neighbor or something. Make sure you don't move around. Whoever it is may leave and not even know you're there.
I don't know if this is real, or not. But if it is, you need to call the police somehow. Cellphone, maybe? If your internet's working, the phone might actually still work, even if you don't get a dial tone. It's worth a try.

Grab a blunt object to defend yourself with, and then hide in a closet or under a bed. Don't lock the door, or the person will know you're there. Avoid a confrontation. Take a phone if you have time. You may wish to call the emergency or non-emergency police number now.
