For instance, I don't know if you're into fanfiction (stories based on other works, such as books or movies), but there is a genre called slash, referring to homosexual pairings. Most people who read slash are straight women. Many enjoy it because when they read a romance story between a woman and a man, there's a lot of pressure. We tend to empathize with the woman in the story and put ourselves in her situation. When it's two guys, the woman can just sit back and enjoy herself. This is the same reason that a lot of heterosexual guys like lesbian porn. Instinctually, if it was male/female porn, some guys would feel threatened by the other man, but when it's two women, he can just watch.
Now, I'm bi, so I'm very concerned about gay rights issues. That's why I like to watch movies like Chasing Amy and Brokeback Mountain, because they show how people deal with sexuality. It's interesting for me, but I'm sure there are straight people who find it interesting as well. As for reading, I like stories about het, gay, and lesbian couples. Love is love. =D
It's entirely possible for a person to like reading stories and watching movies about homosexuals, and at the same time hate gays. Of course, that person is a hypocritical asshole, but to each his own. It's also possible to completely support gay rights and hate reading stories about gay couples. :D

I'm a straight female and I started watching Queer as Folk when I was 13 (4 years ago) and The L Word about a year ago. Queer as Folk is mostly gay men, and The L Word is all lesbians. I'm a BIG gay rights person and I'm very liberal. I support homosexuality 110%. I also happen to find the idea of two men together just as hot as a straight man would find two women together. I watch lesbians on The L Word, but not because I'm turned on by it. More because the show is wonderful and, as I said, I'm "all about the gays" in the words of my best friend.
Just because you watch and/or read about gay people doesn't mean you are gay. BUT, if you are a boy watching men together and getting turned on by it or a girl watching women together and getting turned on by it, that could POSSIBLY, but not surely, be an indicator that you are bi or gay/lesbian.

I'm straight. But have prolly seen every homo movie ever made. And read all these stories and books and stuff.
It's mainly because I support them in a way, and also because I find it to be absolutely beautiful even though it's against my religion, culture, yadi yadi yada.
