Turned in essay; teacher lost it so I gave her another & its

Question Posted Thursday April 12 2007, 11:19 pm

Okay. I wrote this essay. I checked my grade a few days later and noticed I got a zero for it.

I emailed the teacher and asked her why I got a zero... Because I know I turned it in and there's no way I couldn't have gotten any credit for it.

And she said. "I don't know....my mistake? Please show me the essay again so I can reenter your score."

So I printed it again and gave it to her the next day.

And it seems I wasn't being clear because apparently she meant she wanted the [graded] essay back.

But I never did get the first essay back.

I did turn it in on the day it was due. I remember giving it to her and seeing it on a pile on her desk.

So... She must've lost it...?

I told her this today and it doesn't seem like she'll change the grade.

I don't think it's fair at all because I worked very hard on the it.

The original grade was 40/50 but because she seems to think I didn't turn it in the day it was due, it's "late" so the final score is 20/50.

I don't know what to do... I have no proof that I turned it in on that day. The people sitting by me probably didn't pay attention.

Yo.
That is totally unfair. If the teacher lost it and you worked so hard on it, why is your grade that bad?? I would say try talking to your parents about what happened and then try and get them to talk to your teacher about it. If that doesnt work, maybe ask the princible about it and even ask to retake the test so the teahcer grades it, hands it to you and she doesnt 'lose' it.(Or, you could see if the people sitting near you did see you, but i mean that probably wouldnt work, since you did say that they probably werent paying attention when you handed it in. But if they did you could get them to tlk to the teacher with you.)
Hope i helped!!!!

That's completely unfair. Tell your parents and try to get them to talk to her about it. It's not fair that you put so much effort into an essay, and she was irresponsible and lost the paper and gave you a low grade for it. It's her fault and not yours. Keep complaining to her about it and get your parents to talk to her. Your grades shouldn't suffer when they have no reason to. That's rediculous.

Your best bet is to continue trying to get your point across. As ygsgirl said you shouldn't accept anything less than full credit. It's her fault she lost it, not yours.

Anyway, if she still won't listen I would have one of your parents call up. Parents almost always get things taken care of. Maybe that's just my parents though. If she still won't change your grade to full credit then I would continue complaining. Eventually she'll get sick of your complaining and either change it, or send you to the principal. If she does send you out you can politely describe to whomever she sends you to why you're behaving the way you are. Due to an unfair grade. You should always stand up for what you deserve. If you really did work your butt off on the paper and didn't get the fair grade because of your teachers mistake, you shouldn't accept that.

Yah. If it were me in your shoes, I would grumble and complain to no end about her losing my essay. And then, I would grumble and complain some more when she said she was only giving me half credit for it being "late." I would settle for no less than full credit. If she didn't want to give me that, I would grumble and complain all the way to the office to do it in the Principal's office until somebody gave me the grade I deserved.

But then again, I get a gold star for my skill at grumbling and complaining.

Why should you have to pay the price for her losing your essay? You shouldn't. And I wouldn't back down on the issue if I were you. You did your part. You completed your essay and turned it in on time. SHE lost it. SHE is at fault. Not you.
