Question Posted Monday April 9 2007, 5:16 pm

Ok so I'm on birth control and I try to take it everyday around the same time but some days I'm a few hours off ... a few days ago I let my boyfriend go in me without protection but I didn't let him cum....all I want to know is the chances of getting pregnant....are they low...because I already heard getting pregnant off of pre cum is already low.

According to Planned Parenthood, your pill is not considered late if taken within the same 4 hours every single day. For instance, if you took it @ 6pm on Sunday & then waited till 9pm on Monday night, it would not be considered late. But it's best to take it the same exact hour every single day, because it's 99% effective with PERFECT use. To help me remember, I put an alarm on my phone for 10:20pm every night so I can take it @ 10:30pm. I'm very precise with mine & so far it's been a GREAT way for me to remember - especially since I always have my phone with me.

If you missed ANY day within a week or two prior to having unprotected sex, then you should be worried. But in my honest OPINION, if he did not cum in you & you are usually pretty good with your birth control, you shouldn't be too worried. But as you said, you can still get pregnant from precum.. & birth control is not 100% effective. If you had any doubt about it, you should have gone to your local clinic or Planned Parenthood & gotten emergency contraception. It's only about $28 (in my area) & effective up to 72 hours after sex. But since it's been a few days, that is no longer an option.

Next time, if you want to have unprotected sex, be sure you take your pill every single day @ the same hour & have him pull out. But I highly suggest being on your birth control AND using a condom. That way if one method fails, the other is there to back it up & you will probably not be in the position to worry like you are now.

the birth control you have been taking reduces greatly the chances of you getting pregnant but the truth is pre-cum often contains sperm which can cause pregnancy...I have researched this and you should be fine because of the birth control but it is very much possible if you were not on the birth control of getting pregnant

I can tell you right now that if you are missing pills even by an hour or far off the time you were supposed to take them you're already at risk. Your birthcontrol method is already compromised to the point of being ineffective any more.

That info is based on what I was taught in health class and have heard for years. You need to be using condoms at this point to be protected.

Yes, you could be pregnant from him beig inside you even for a second if pre-cum is present. It contains enough sperm (millions) to cause pregnancy. The risk isn't low either. It's often the same or higher because people believe pre-cum cannot easily cause pregnancy mistakenly.

What you should do that would really work for you and doesn't involve pills or trying to take them at an exact time is the new device out called Nuvaring.

It tucks up inside your vagina (not sure how long to keep it in) and keeps you safe from pregnancy. It's supposed to be comfortable from what I have heard.

Check out their official site and see if it's something you want to use. You can buy it from my understanding in drugstores without prescription but double check on that.

If you are taking birth control pills everyday, regardless of the time of day you take them, you are not likely to become pregnant.

They try and get you to take them at the same time everyday mostly so you will remember. Taking them the same time everyday makes it habit. :)
