first time summer camp?
i know a lot of people go to sleepaway summer camps for like the entire summer and just love it. well i have never been to one and i definitely dont think i would want to go all summer. but i really want a way to get out there and meet new people, make more friends and have fun. are there any sleep away camps like this that only go for a short period of time? like maybe a week or 2? i want to go but i am kind of shy at first and im not too good at talking to new people, so i think i would try to convince a friend of mine to go with me. do you think it would be a good idea? and any other suggestions, thanks

well, i don't know where you live, so it's kind of hard to suggest camps. around here, i know of Sandy Hill camp that alot of people really like. some people go to religious camps (that aren't all about religion), like Camp Sakinac. at these camps, you can go for 1, 2 or more weeks.
i went to a sleepover camp for one week. it was so much fun! =] the people in your cabin, and other people in the camp, you automatically become friends with since youre stuck with them & only them for awhile. it's nice to meet new people, and if you really connect with someone, you might end up talking to them for along time after you leave camp. its really alot of fun - you wont regret it, it's a good expierence to have. also, i went with a friend to my camp, because it was just easier for me to go with someone. there were plenty of people there that idnd't go with someone though, and they made alot of friends just fine and had a great time. for your first time, you probably would wanna go with someone though.
like that one saying goes, "you go to camp missing your family, and you come home missing your new family" so many people have so much fun at camp! you should totally go. just research camps in your area, read what they're about. if you ahve a specific interest (sports, dance, horseback riding) there are sleepaway camps for that. but there are also just sleepaway camps that have a variety of stuff. aynway have fun

hey, well im not sure of any sleepaway summer camps that are only two weeks long. you said that you know friends who went to sleepaway summer camps and just loved it. even if they are more than two weeks long, ask them about it. find out more information and ask them for more details. if it sounds like you would be interested, find out if they would be interested in going again with you. they probably already had friends in that same camp that they made from last summer, so thats a plus because she could introduce you and then you`ll already have friends. you can still make your own of course. also if worse comes to worse and you cant bear another minute of it, its not illegal to leave early and have your parents come and get you. if you get homesick, write letters and do care packages =].
