im really confused is a 4.0 like perfect gpa and then 5.0 if you are taking honors or is 5.0 perfect and 6.0 is if you are taking honors?
or does it depend on the school?
However, if you take an AP or honors class, it is possible to get above a 4.0. It depends on what the maximum point for the class is. My school gives only 5 points maximum for an A in an honors or AP class. HOwever, other schools may give 6 points.
What you do is that you add the points you got in each class, and then divide them by the number of classes you have. For example, you have 6 As in 6 classes and the As are worht 5 points, youll have a 5.0. If you have 6 As, 3 of them in regular classes and the other 3 in honors classes, then youll have a 4.5.
The higher the GPA, the better, but i dont recommend taking all honors and AP classes in highschool unless if you don't care about your social life. If you're still confused, send me a message. [ TheWallflower's advice column | Ask TheWallflower A Question ]
SweetStarx89 answered Saturday April 7 2007, 11:00 am: Hey. It depends on how your school operates with the grading scale. For me, AP courses are considered to be 6 points with an A, Honors is 5 points with an A, and regular is 4 points with an A. If your are in all honors and scored straight A's then your GPA's a 5.0 and if all AP with straight A's then a 6.0. Hope I helped. Take care! What happens is that each grade is given a point value:
A-4
B-3
C-2
D-1
F-0
But, if you are taking an AP or IB (or at some schools, Honors) course, they bump up all of the point values.
A-5
B-4
C-3
D-2
F-1
To find your GPA, you add up all of your scores and divide them by the number of classes you're taking.
Let's use my schedule, but ot necessarily my grades.
Student Council- A
Honors English- A
AP European History- A
Choir- A
Pre-Calculus-A
Honors Chemistry-A
Spanish 2- A
Honors classes are weighted like regular classes at my school.
So, to find the average, we'd add:
4+4+5+4+4+4+4 = 29
29 divided by 7 is 4.14.
Let's say I was taking these courses:
AP English
AP Government
AP Economics
AP Music Theory
AP Calculus
AP Chemistry
AP Spanish

theymos answered Saturday April 7 2007, 1:58 am: Perfect is almost always 4.0. How honors are treated is Dependant on the school, some schools allow you to have a GPA higher than 4. [ theymos's advice column | Ask theymos A Question ]
