egg drop contest

Question Posted Friday April 6 2007, 7:59 pm

each year for easter my family gets together and has an egg drop contest. for those who don't know what an egg drop contest is, it's where you make kindof an apparatus for a raw egg so that it doesn't crack when thrown off a building. in the past years i haven't been too lucky with the contest and i was wondering what may be some good suggestions for it?

**please nothing about peanut butter, packing peanuts, jello, or balloons. i've tried all of these and they've failed me in the past

This might be totally off topic but my little brother's friend did this for a science fair. he was proving that toothpaste makes teeth stronger sooo he had one egg that was put in toothpaste (idk how many times) for a week and one that wasn't and the one that wasn't cracked a lot easier that the one that did use the toothpaste. I know it's not about the apparatus buttt it might come in handy. <3

well we had to do this as a project and it worked fine for us. we used a peanut butter jar with no peanut butter and then filled it with cotton to about half way and then put the egg in and then another half with cotton. and then we had a little parachutte connected with string. hope i helped.

my brother recently did this in his physics class. YEs his didnt break and it did require balloons so ill skip that. But one thing you could try, which may or may not work, is to put it in a box of small rocks, and wen it is tossed make sure it is in an area that it wont have a huge impact. it sounds odd but it really did work!!! hopefully it does, and if you dont like that idea, you honestly dont need to use it. hope the advice wokrs though.

Well, I don't know how to not crack and egg. But maybe, you should tie the baloon to the egg to it land safely(if that is aloud)
