first off tell him to wash his penis more thoroughly. also don't do it unless he's just showered or cleaned up. nothing worse than someone who goes into sex dirty and unclean to begin with. things smell funny, things taste different, it makes for a very unsatisfying experience.
second. sounds like he's not circumsized. which ultimately sucks for you because it gives him another area of skin around the head of his penis to get in the way. and also retain odors and smell causing bacteria as well as things that might make it taste bad. fact of the matter is, an uncircumsized penis will need to be cleaned a lot more often and a lot more thoroughly because of that layer of skin there. that little flap of skin holds in all sorts of nasties, this is why most doctors today reccomend circumsizion on males simply because it makes things cleaner and easier to manage.
finally tell him to eat more fruits and veggies. semen doesn't have to taste bad. a male with a more balanced diet will produce a healthier specimen altogether. more veggies, more fruits, and some excersize and things should start looking up in that department.

It sounds to me like he isn't practicing good hygiene. If a guy takes good care of himself, there shouldn't be anything gross tasting under his foreskin. If you can, shower with him before-hand. If you can't, then use a flavoured condom like the person below suggested.
You don't have to deep-throat. Just using your tongue and lips on the head is usually enough.
A tip for driving him crazy: there's a little bump on the underside, where the head meets the shaft. Flicking that with your tongue works wonders :)

Never do anything that makes you feel ill or uncomfortable regardless of what your boyfriend says.
