Just ask your dad for some money to go shopping, and have your friend who already wears bras to come with you. You can usually tell someone's size by looking at them, so maybe she can help. You should buy more than 3 bras though because you do have to change your bra everyday. Sports bras should usually be worn to sleep, and a regular bra should be worn when you're not wearing the sports bra.
But if you don't wanna go with a friend, just explain it to your dad. He's not exactly female like you would've hoped, but I'm sure he'll be glad that you told him. Besides, you're gonna have to tell him about your boyfriends, your friends & your period, so start with your bras. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]

Have your friend's mom take you. Explain how you aren't comfortable going with your dad. However, have your dad let you go shop for bras for 30 minutes, give u money, and have him meet you somewhere when you're done? Remember, your dads gonna have to understand, since you live with him. About periods, bras, and just about being a women!
Also try walmart, target, kmart, kohls. Places like those have a nice variety, for a cheap price.
its_melissa_DuH answered Monday April 2 2007, 8:35 pm: just as that person said below, that's how you measure your breasts. for the dad part, ask him to drop you and a friend off at walmart to look for "swim suits" (or say anything-- like school supplies, clothes, shoes, etc.) walmart actually has really good bras! i was at walmart with my little cousin (she's 11) and she was getting her first bras there. they had bras for as low as $2! look around with your friend and try some bras on. make sure they feel comfortable and not too tight, make sure the bra isn't pinching into your back and it's not riding up. choose bras in skin tone colors so they don't show through your shirt. a skin-tone color and a gray color are the best color choices to choose. avoid white because it shows through shirts. when you buy the bras, make sure to buy something else too (like a tshirt) so your dad thinks that you actually bought something, and stuff the bras in your purse so he doesn't see them in the bag. trust me-- i've had experience with this LOL! walmart has a wide variety of bras, including sports bras and cupped ones too. just look around and you should find everything you need! =) hope i helped and good luck with it!
advice_expert101 answered Monday April 2 2007, 7:59 pm: okay well target does have some good bras. i was just there! haha. you could just have your dad drop you off with a friend and then get the bras. or like just tell your dad that you need some bras and go look for them WITH OUT him. if you have an older sister ask her for help or a friend.
this is how you get your bra size:
BAND SIZE
• Measure around your ribcage, directly under the bust.
• Add 5 to this measurement to obtain your band size. (i.e.: If your ribcage measurement is 29" + (5) = 34" band size.)
CUP SIZE
• Measure completely around the bust at the fullest point.
• Each inch of difference between this measurement and your BAND size = cup size. (i.e.: If your band size is 34" and your bust measurement is 35", you wear an "A" cup.)
If the difference is:
less than 1 inch = AA cup 3 inches = C cup
1 inch = A cup 4 inches = D cup
2 inches = B cup 5 inches = DD cup
dont worry. i have to deal with the same thing that your going thro. go to target first because i like their like .. selection and stuff better. =]
and if you can victorias secrect is ment for like bras and stuff so go there. and dont be affraid to ask for help because all girls have them. if you have to just ask a younge girl who works there to help you. oh and get both because girls need to have a bra for everyday so yeah. get a couple. =]
burningXstar answered Monday April 2 2007, 7:44 pm: If these are going to be your "first bras" don't worry too much about the "size", the best thing to do is try some bras on because the sizes are never the same.... I hate bra shopping for this reason... I'm not familiar with American supermarkets either but if you don't want assistance then you need to make sure (go into a changing room with a good mirror) that the back strap runs along horizontal and doesn't ride up your back - if it does it is too big and you will need a smaller back size. Also, you should try and use the last clips of a bra, as this will ensure the bra lasts longer, as it stretches over time you can move up to the second and third clasps... (I used to always just go for the first clasps! - they didn't last long!) also you should try wearing a tshirt over the bra make sure it isn't all frumpy and bumpy on the underside or it will look abit strange (I never understood non-smooth bras!) as for your sports bra make sure you get the right sort of support, if it is your first bra you should be fine getting your bog standard normal bra, but bigger chested woman need to make sure they buy proper bras for ample support or you can damage the breast tissue, make sure you do the "bounce test" and feel secure and tight (but not too tight).
Google up some bra help pages if you want to measure yourself up before you go, if anything the most important measurement will be your back size, which is the measurement under your bust. But you will still need to try bras on as some of them are just made wonky, I swear they are out to get us!
Hope this helps! Try no to panic, all women need bras, I'm sure your dad will understand :) [ burningXstar's advice column | Ask burningXstar A Question ]
