insecurity about bathing suits

Question Posted Sunday March 25 2007, 12:29 am

okay, so i love swimming, but i DREAD wearing a bathing suit! I'm really insecure about it. I'm absolutely not fat, but i don't have a bikini body either. I'm also very self conscious about how much is showing. i always look and feel so awkward in a bathing suit. i have acne on my back that i can't get to go away, so thats embarrasing. i almost always get a once-peice bathing suit, but i'm thinking about a tankini this summer. but i want to find one i don't have to worry about. any suggestions on where to get a good (and inexpensive) one? preferably not low cut and boy-short bottoms. and also, how to overcome the insecurity. help, please??

I like old navys bathing suits, personally, and target has cute tankinis. And there low-priced.

But hey, i mean dont be self conscious about the way you look in a bikini. I used to be very insecure about my body, because whenever id wear a bikini, my boobs would look tiny, and i have acne on my chest and back. But i figured, its not the worst thing ever. No one really cares the way you look. As long as your having fun swimming and stuff, who cares about the way you look. Just forget about what other people think and have a good time.

Ok I'll settle the insecurity problem cos I think that's more pressing than finding a suitable tankini.

Seriously, no one bothers if you have a bikini body. Honestly, no one talks bout you unless you have a supermodel body or you're like exaggeratingly fat. I can bet you, even if you remove those acne on your back, you'd still find something to complain bout. If you're so self conscious bout your back, get a swimming suit that doesn't reveal too much of your back.
Also you could get a two piece bathing suit if you want : a sleeveless top and a bottom. The top normally isn't as low cut (on the front and on the back) as those of one piece.

Just wear it, don't care bout how you look like afterwards. There will always be flaws on people's body. No one is perfect. If you're gonna be so bothered bout it, then you'd make others notice. It's like advertising for a product. You are the product. If you don't behave confidently, you're not gonna sell well. If your frens or whoever ask why do you have acne on your back, just say "I can't seem to get rid of it, you have any pdts that might help? etc" Just don't say things that berate yourself like "yea I know, it's so ugly and I hate it. I look like shit"

The best way to overcome your insecurity is to ignore your flaws. Tell yourself, "I have acne on my back but so? My figure's good." Having acne on your back is really a minor thing. I have a birthmark on my shoulder blade but I don't care and I still wear revealing tops. People have freckles all over their body and yet they dare to flaunt.

Girl, seriously, just go ahead and have fun swimming. No one's really gonna care that much.

How about something like this? [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

It's absolutely sexy and would give great shape to a not-so-toned body, and noone's gonna be paying attention to your back if your front looks that great! Not too expensive, either.

As for overcoming insecurity, accessories are always helpful. Big beachy sunglasses, a cool headscarf, some beaded flip-flops and a tote will all draw attention away from your perceived flaws - guys will still admire you, don't worry, and girls will be too busy looking at your style to make catty remarks about your body (and we all know that girls are the only ones who have anything bad to say about another girl's body anyway). Also, getting an all-over spray tan might help - a good tan hides a multitude of flaws, and would conceal a lot of the redness of the backne!
