protein

Question Posted Thursday March 22 2007, 5:50 pm

So I want to eat more protein becaise I heard that it helps your hair grow faster. I also want to lose a few pounds before summer. I dont want a really strict diet; I just want to eat healthy foods. What are some good meals for breakfast? I really like eggs. So if you have ideas of meals that I could use eggs in. Also, I could use a list of foods high in protein.

When I exercise, I usually run/walk 1.5 miles. and bike 1 mile. Than I usually do some exercises with weights for my arms.
Is this good enough? I kind of want to get a toned body, not just stay in the shape I am. Im 14, 120 pounds, and 5 foot 3.

Thanks

Good protein sources (that are low in everything else):
Lean meat, chicken, turkey (both skinless), egg whites, protein shakes (whatever kind, but whey is best in most cases), low fat cottage cheese, tuna, skim milk (though this one has a fair amount of carbs).

Breaksfast stuff thats good for you includes: oats, skim milk, low fat yoghurt, eggs (though easy on the yolks since the have a lot of fat, supplement with just whites), whole wheat bread, fruit.

You can of course also go for something less traditional... how about a chicken breast egg white omlete, with one yolk and a slice of whole wheat toast. Just a thought.

Your exercise routine is so-so. I think the cardio could be increased a bit. As for the weights, the more muscles you work the better it is. I would try to go for a more full body workout there. It doesnt have to take long. Get in some big exercises like squats, deadlifts, bench press, shoulder press etc.

For protein, find the supplement called "spirulina". Eat about 400mg of it with each meal, and you have your protein needs completely covered. The exercise type doesn't really matter, as long as you're doing it nonstop for 30-60 minutes.
