A valedictorian is a person who graduates first out of his/her graduating class. To become one, you have to have the highest grade point average [GPA] out of the whole student body.

A valedictorian is the person in your grade at the end of high school with the highest overall grade point average. You become one by working very hard at your grades.

YG is absolutely correct.

You become one when your class graduates highschool. The person with the highest GPA. Salutorian is second in the class, by the way.

Many grading systems (if yours is computerized) calculates class ranking after each marking period (like after report cards) and you can have an administrator check your rank. My school uses iPass, so if your school has that, chances are they also have the class rank feature.
