So, I did something really stupid. I accidentally drop my Ipod in the washing machine today while it was running. Thankfully, it was off and on hold, but I haven't tried turning it on yet in case there is moisture in there. What are the chances of it ever being able to work again? Is it possible to just leave it off for a few days and just let it dry out? Or am I basically screwed?

Oh my gosh i did the same thing! keep it off for a week or two. then turn it on. if it still wont work, you may have to return it or go to geek squad at most best buy's. if you have a warranty, you can exchange it!
hope i helped... let me know what happens ]
First of all, don't put your iPod under a lamp, or use a hairdryer on it. You want a waterlogged, steaming, somewhat melted iPod?
It would have been a little help to know what model iPod it is.
You can get special screw-drivers from electronics stores, or ebay, that you use in conjunction with generic batteries to replace dead Li-Ion batteries in iPods, because Apple did a stupid thing, and made the battery non user-replaceable, so they could charge heaps to put in a new battery. Fortunately for you, this means that you can find a device which will allow you to open your iPod. Once it's open, sop up any visible water, using something absorbent such as a tissue. Don't put pressure on any exposed parts, and don't touch any of the metal with your fingers. Oils can corrode electronics.
Do as much as you can to dry it out, and then leave it for a few days, in a cool, dry place. Don't leave it where it will get baked by the sun, or peed on by your neighbour's cat ;O
Then try turning it on.
It's quite possible that it won't work, but if it doesn't it might only be the battery. I'd recommend taking it back to Apple, put back together, and pretending you didn't take it apart. It's more likely to work if it's a Nano, I would guess. This is because ones with Hard Drives are more likely to be corrupted by water.
Just another thought. Was the washing machine water sudsy? If so, it might actually be a good move to rinse and dry the iPod. Don't quote me, and don't do it unless you ask Apple, but the detergent might eventually be more fatal than having dropped it in water.
Good luck getting it working

this happened to my phone, except it went for a full spin cycle. the best thing to do is not turn it on. i messed up big time because i turned my phone on as soon as i fished it out of the washer, which basically fried the circuit board. i'd advise you to leave it under a lamp or by a window with sunshine constantly for the next few days (flip it every now and then). then you can try to turn it on. i've never washed my ipod, but it seems like it would have a better chance of recovery than a razr. if i were you, i would just count on being basically screwed because it will be rare if your ipod comes back to life. and if it does then it will be a surprise, haha. blow dryers might help too. anyway, good luck with that. ]
Your in luck this happen to my friend before accept his got washed in tha washer then dryed in tha dryer and well he just left it alone for a few weeks and he sold it to a friend and told him that you cant wall charge it any more and his friend computer charged it and it worked so he things it must have dried out after the weeks and the dryer... so try leaving it to dry...
hope i helped
.Da One'n Only. ]
try to let it dry out.it probably wont work, though.
something kind of similar happened to my brother.he dropped his ipod in the snow and didnt know it so it stayed out there over night.he called Apple and they fixed his ipod for him;even though it wasen't under warenty.
hope i helped =] ]
i'm thinking you are screwed ]
I think it probably won't work. but you should turn it on and check anyways because theres no other way to know this without turning it on. you could try to leave it off for a while but it probably wont work if you got a lot of water in it. =(
