tanning

Question Posted Saturday February 17 2007, 10:28 am

ok so i have kind of a hard time tanning [[in the sun]]. i can tan kinda ok-ish but during the summer im outside alot and if i could tan easily believe me id be sooo dark! also it fades REALLY quickly whenever i am kinda tan. well we're going to the beach a couple weeks after school ends so i was just wondering if i went to a tanning bed about twice a week [not to overdo it] for a month before the trip and got a base tan or whatever would i be able to tan easier in the sun since im darker?

and yes i know... sunscreen.

thanks!

Well, I can first say you are asking the right person. I'm the same as you - I don't tan well in the sun no matter how long I am out there. But tanning beds, I tan like no other. When you start going to tanning beds: you want to go about every or every other day during the first week or so until you get the color you want. I wouldn't only go twice the very first week because it takes awhile to see results at first if you don't go as often. (Typically, you want to go for about 15-20 minutes in a normal session. But they'll usually start you at 6 minutes at your first tanning session to see how your skin reacts to the beds. & eventually increase that time each visit.) To hold your color, you're going to want a very good indoor tanning lotion. Talk to the lady at the tanning salon & ask for a tingle-free tanning lotion that'll help you hold color. (Random tip: Shower/exfoliate before your tanning session. & avoid showering for a few hours after tanning.) At first, you don't want any lotion with self-acting bronzers. But when you start to get a color, try a tanning lotion with that bronzer in it. They aren't exactly "self tanners"; they're more subtle & bring out your tan if you have some color. Anyways, after the first week or two, you'll have that base tan & can maintain it by going twice a week. From experience, I've noticed that after getting a base tan from a tanning bed, I tan VERY well in the sun. Hope that helps! If you have any other questions regarding tanning beds, the tanning process or lotions, just let me know. I've been familiar with them for over three years. :)

Well for me I would always sunburn when I would try to tan in the sun. So I went to the tanning bed in the basic bed for 10 to 15 minutes and I would get really ten. It made it so in the summer I could tan better, and I did. I would still sunburn on my shoulders and face but my stomach and back ect. would get really tan and it would stay. Also don't put sun screen on because you won't tan, to tan out side buy a special tanning lotion (at your tanning salon) for out side also because not all can be used for bot but you have to watch out because the lotion wears off after 20 minutes so be careful. But yes I would go to the tanning bed. Hope I helped. Make sure you put a sticker on :)

Hey,

Yes, I think you should go tanning 2 days a week for about 15 minutes or so. This will give you a nice base tan and of course prepare you for the sun.

To keep your tan from NOT fading, use Jergen's Natural Glow as your daily moisturizer. Trust me, it works wonders.

Good luck- have fun in the sun!! :)

Deffinitely! I have somewhat fair skin and I either take forever to get any color or I get a little burned. I am leaving for FL today and this whole month I've actually been tanning twice a week to get a base tan. I've done this before and it works very well because it prepares your skin for the sun and makes it more suseptable to getting a tan. Just make sure when you go to the tanning salon that you keep increasing the amount of time you are in, and also using tanning lotion helps a lot. Ask whoever is working to pick you out a good one that isn't priced rediculously. I prefer the bronzers because they make your skin look darker which is what you want so maybe give one of those a try.
