black·mail
–noun 1. any payment extorted by intimidation, as by threats of injurious revelations or accusations.
2. the extortion of such payment: He confessed rather than suffer the dishonor of blackmail.
3. a tribute formerly exacted in the north of England and in Scotland by freebooting chiefs for protection from pillage.
But the way I put it is:
Something you've done wrong; don't want a certain person to know; embarrassing photos, videos, proof of some sort etc, etc, etc. That another person knows of you. If you don't do what they desire, they can show them what you don't want them to reveal.
Bbeautifulbby555 answered Thursday February 15 2007, 4:29 pm: 1. use of secrets to compel: the act of forcing somebody to pay money or do something by threatening to reveal shameful or incriminating facts about him or her. See also greenmail n.

2. coercion: unfair threatening or incriminating of somebody, as a way of achieving a result
Its just a way of backstabbing someone by telling someone something about that person that was supposed to be a secret. It's a way to keep someone quiet about something else, like something you did,so if you have something on that person you can use it against them.
