I'm reading Twilight by Stephanie Meyers. It starts as an ordinary teen book but gets really dark, extremely well written with lots of twists and turns.

Two writers you may enjoy are Stephen King and Dean Koontz. They both write books with "a lot of twists and turns" and Koontz's characters are some of the best I've ever seen. Now, here are some books I recommend:

American Gods
Odd Thomas
The Burn Journals
The Catcher in the Rye
The Sandman (Graphic Novels)
The Shining
The Silence of the Lambs

Those should get you started :)

I am a Stephen King fan, myself. The man gets into so much detail you can actually see it being played out in your head as you read. To me, that is what makes the best novels ever.

I like them all, but I would have to go with The Shining. However, if you are one to get creeped out, don't read it alone in the dark...
