Living Room

Question Posted Saturday February 10 2007, 1:25 pm

I have blue sofas and my boyfriend doesn't want to throw them out.
But we're redecorating so im gonna have to work with them.
I have no idea what colour (for the walls) that will go with the sofas.
We have hard wood flooring. And I don't really want any bright colours.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

If it helps...i once read in a magizine...that blue and green..are colors that make you feel very energized. That they help you be awake. And not lazy. I know, i KNow...How the heck is this going to work? its not like magic. But i tried it in my room, and it helped me sleep better. Just like it said in the magizine " it helpes you be bright eyedd in the morning!" Now i know yo said you said you didnt want any bright colors. So get a dark green. Another great form of advice is a brownish color. That wuld look very nice!
(i got the energie colors from the magizine 'seventeen')
i hope my advice had helped!!!
always MaRii

You could try getting slip-covers for your sofas so they will match whatever decor you choose. Plus they're washable and make your couches look newer. If you don't want to do that, you could paint your walls a soft creme or dark brown. I think those colors would look nice with the wood floor and the blue couch. Decorate the room with different shades of brown or creme and the blue can be your accent color.

Blue sofas and hardwood might look good with a medium to light rose color on the walls. The shade depends on how dark/light of blue the sofas are and if the hardwood is a light or dark stain.
If you don't want bright, and your floor is dark stain and your sofas are medium to dark blue, try a lighter wall color to balance that out. The opposite for light floor and sofa.

Have you looked at slipcovers? You can get them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Target, Kohl's, Ikea, etc. And any other ideas would depend on what shade, texture, and level of formality your sofas are. For example, they could be blue velvet, blue tweed, or demin and all would lead me in a different direction with decor.
