Well, they say a good punishment is to take away that which is enjoyed the most.

If you want to be sure to stay off the computer for long periods of time, your punishment would be best if it was involving no computer, say for a few days. After time, you will learn to not to surpass your time limit.

See, you enjoy it so much, you take it to extremes. If you can take it away from yourself for days at a whack, you will come to see how much you really don't need it, therefore making it easier to limit yourself in the future.

Try using a timer so you don't loose track of how long you have been on the computer. When the timer buzzes, shut it down and spend quality time with your family, rather than a machine.

Though, limiting your time to only 5 minutes is, in my opinion, a bit excessive. It takes me longer than that to check my email. 30 minutes isn't a bad time limit. But you state your question as though this is something you really want to do for yourself, which is a good way to practice self discipline.

Going from hours on the computer to a measly five minutes will take some time getting used to. How about limiting your online time more and more everyday? Start of with an hour, then 30 minutes, then 15, etc. Then once you get down to your goal of 5 minutes, you can start thinking of "punishments." I personally don't see the need for punishments, but if this is really what you want... How about; groundings, no tv, limiting time with friends, paying a fine, or something else along these lines. If worst comes to worst you can always turn off your computer or cancel your internet. This way you have no choice but to lead a computer-free life.

I dont neccessarily agree with the restriction you are imposing on yourself, but here are some suggestions:

- grounding
- no tv
- chores (more than 5 mins and you clean the toilet for example... great incentive to follow rules)
- fines (costs you x dollars every time you screw up- donate it to charity or something)
- Extra homework (my dad used to do this to me when i was a kid. He used to make me do maths, lots and lots of maths)

Personally I believe the best incentive is a good beating, but I dont think they allow that anymore :)

Enjoy

Using the computer for more than 5 minutes isn't "too much." That's rediculous. You shouldn't be punished for having 5 minutes of fun.

Your parents are idiotic. I can see if it stopped you from doing things of everyday life such as eating, sleeping, homework & bathing, but if it's not..it's not such a bother.
