Additional info, added Monday January 15 2007, 12:46 pm:
Also, when girls become sexually active do most of them go on the pill? What if you dont? Besides the higher risk of getting pregnant, is there any other reason that the pill is absolutely necessary?.

Uh... There is no "special age."

People become sexually active WAY too early in life. I don't think they realize what they are stepping into.

I am a firm believer that you shouldn't have sex until you are ready to raise a child. Even with birth control, pregnancy is a possibility. And having a baby is a monstrous responsibility you can't even imagine.

You should get on birth control BEFORE you plan to become sexually active.

If you don't? Imagine a screaming baby waking you every hour on the hour. Imagine having no life, no money, no time.

There is no other REAL reason for the pill. It does help with regulating periods and menstrual cramps, but those things are not the point of birth control.

Even when on birth control, ALWAYS use condoms. Condoms are the only thing to protect you against sexually transmitted diseases.

A baby is a life long commitment, AIDS is a life sentence.

I'm not going to have sex until I'm married, but I guess that's not average... I'd say average would be about 15 or 16, depending on who and where you're asking. A lot of people don't become sexually active until they find the right person, whether that's when they're 15 or 25. Others, like me, choose to wait till marriage.
Some girls choose to go on the pill, some don't. It doesn't really matter, because either way, you still need to wear a condom to prevent STDs and HIV. No pill can protect against them. xxx

well id suggest going to a website with actual stats because what the average teen thinks on the number of other teens having sex is is very different from the actual number.
i started having sex the week after my 15th birthday.
im guessing that less than half of teenage girls go on the pill to not get pregnant. most just use condoms or nothing at all. keep in mind a lot of teenage girls are on the pill to regulate their periods.

The average afte that people become sexually active is during the teenage years. A lot of my friends, 14-up have done things like that so I'd say 14-16. Not all girls go on the pill. Some can't get it but if you don't, you always need to wear protection. A lot of girls also use the pill for their periods & it clears up acne. I know a friend that uses the pill and it worked for her.
