It will turn itself on if you turn another firewall off(which is pretty annoying). If you are connected using a router, the router can sometimes block connections; look at the router manual to figure out how to add an exception. Apple also recommends you disable popup blockers, and flush your DNS. Flush your DNS by going to Start>run and typing cmd, then enter. Then type:
ipconfig /flushdns
and press enter. If that doesn't work, contact apple/itunes support [ theymos's advice column | Ask theymos A Question ]
LM answered Sunday January 14 2007, 2:54 pm: Well first off, don't EVER disable your firewall, unless you're installing a program. No offense, but that's a stupid thing to do. Just make iTunes an exception instead. This is very easy to do with Windows Firewall. Other firewalls, I'm sure it's very easy too, but Windows Firewall is what most people use, I believe because it's free. Also make sure you don't have two firewalls because that screws up your computer.
Disconnect& reconnect your internet modem. Restart your computer. Run virus scans. Clsoe other programs since iTunes often slows your computer to a crawl. Call 1 800 MU APPLE to make sure your account works.
EDIT: Turning off the firewall opens up your computer to getting more viruses that can (and probably will) screw up your computer even more. If you wanna run your computer with a live internet connection and no firewall, be my guest! [ LM's advice column | Ask LM A Question ]
runawayxlove answered Sunday January 14 2007, 2:46 pm: hey, well maybe you installed itunes wrong. thats the only thing that i can think of. uninstall it and then reinstall it. if that doesnt work ask yourself this. where did i install my itunes from? if you installed it from somewhere like downloads.com then it was a scam and its never going to work. you need to go to the apple store and install it.
