ok i don't know about how you can get a british accent except come live here. i am bristish and it is really not that great having a british accent, it's just the way you talk and i guess in america it's seen as 'cute' but it's just the way we speak. it's normal for us but we don't make a big deal out of accents like americans except taking the mickey.
also, which accent do you want? scottish? welsh? cockney(london)? geordie(newcastle)? scouse(liverpool)? west country? "proper english"(posh)? there are so many that if you came over here your accent would depend on where you were staying/living.

I found some websites for you if they help at all: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Xenolan answered Monday January 8 2007, 12:24 pm: Certainly, you can learn to affect an accent. Actors do it all the time, some better than others. You could almost certainly find a language coach who could help you get it just right, so that you don't sound fake.
However, it will probably always require a conscious effort, and so you might want to think about whether you want to be forever thinking about the way you speak. There are also those who might consider it a little pretentious of you, but you can always just tell them that you're speaking English the way it was meant to be spoken. :) [ Xenolan's advice column | Ask Xenolan A Question ]
