I'm sick of my short nails. I wanna try to grow them out. I can not stand seeing the white part of my nails which is why I bight or tear the tip of my nails off. I've tried painting my nails so that i can't see the white part but it just comes off after only a day. I've tried fake nails too, but the white part under them annoys me. How can I get over this and have longish nails?

Habits are always formed mentally, which in a sense means that your mind picks up that you always bite your nails and it becomes almost automatic.
If you buy a polish with a bad taste to it, it's going to be harder for you to bite your nails. You could try "control-it" nail biting cream or treatment. *Found at stopbitingnails.com* Or you could even go to your local drug store and chose a nail polish which has a bitter taste. Another option could be putting oil or lotion on your hands.
Chew gum. When you already have something in your mouth, you won't be able to bite your nails. Chewing gum will give you something to chew at rather than your nails.
Keep busy. Make sure you can keep your hands busy. For instance, if you are at school you can start writing or drawing.
If you want, you can try the rubber band trick. And everytime you feel like biting your nails, flick the rubber band.

A french manicure might work you can get them in different colors too so you don't have to see the white and they last longer too. If you have trouble set a goal each day and see how long you can go without biting your nails. Like say I will go 3 hours today without biting my nails and the next day make it longer. Then before you know it you'll be tired of bitng your nails. [ kiran's advice column | Ask kiran A Question ]

I'm not sure if you've already tried that
but it would hide the white tips and
you can get the french-style in any color.
Also, if you go to a salon and
get them done they will last longer then
when you might do them at home.
If you're still having trouble
dip a cotton ball in nail polish
remover and swipe them over your nails.
This way they will have that nasty
taste and smell and you should not
be tempted to bitting them.
