Holy crap. I went to the doctor's yesterday, and they said I weigh 155 pounds! And I'm only 13 and like 5'4. I checked the BMI thingie and I thought before that I was like 130, but like.. woah. I'm like 1 point over normal so now im overweight! ahh! how can I get back in shape? I already do basketball on thursdays and saturdays. and aside from things in school thats pretty much it. how can i get back in shape?????????? i really do not want to get fat.. if im not already not! or real heavy (though i probably am.) im not into doing those things that stupid kids do like be anorexic or bulemic, so thats out of question. but like.. its winter. i cant exactly do all the things i can do in the summer. plus, i have like no backyard (forrest) and alot of homework on weekdays. i think its because i may eat too much. because sometimes i may eat because im bored. but its not like i'll eat chips, because my mom cooks alot of african foods that are good. we dont really go out much but sometimes i guess i eat too much of a good thing. which is why i also bite my nails. should i get gum? but whenever i get it i always finish it in like 1 day. because i kinda feel that i have to be chewing something sometimes.. and i dont want to eat food just because.. when im not really that hungry, or bite off my nails. i dont even notice when i bite them.. but then later i see my nails arent that great and i have bitten them.. but its randomly. any help here? i reaaaally dont wanna get obese in the future!!!! and im a girl.
p.s. thankyou thankyou for helping!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sucks to have these thoughts about yourself. I have struggled with my weight my entire life and the thing that I have decided is that where are YOU happy? If you are comfortable at your weight don't let a number change that. If you felt good before you knew how much you actually weighed stay that way. If the doctor told you to lose weight it is best you follow his advice. If you really feel like you want to shed a few pounds find a resource. I love the biggest loser web site it has so much info. and support on it. There are tons of ideas of how to get in shape indoors. A quick way to change how your body is feeling is to stop drinking soda pop. That is a good way to lose excess water and start feeling better.
As far as your nails go try painting them. That may help! Best of luck to you and let me know how you are doing. I would be happy to be a support to you! [ askshannon's advice column | Ask askshannon A Question ]
Daimeera answered Wednesday December 27 2006, 4:32 pm: What did your doctor say about your weight? Did he or she tell you to lose some?
You might want to make an appointment with your doctor specifically about your weight, or with a nutritionist. They can help you figure out healthy ways for you to lose weight, and then maintain your proper weight once you reach it.
It sounds like you might have a bit of a problem with food control, which is normal--a lot of people suffer from compulsive overeating, or binging. It's nothing to be ashamed of, and I'm not saying that IS your problem, just that it might be something to consider. A doctor and nutritionist could also probably help you deal with that.
It's good that you've ruled out eating disorders as a course of action. Just be careful that it stays that way--sometimes it's easy to slip into one if you're not paying attention.
But mainly, I'd first confirm with your doctor that you SHOULD lose weight (to make sure it's not muscle, or that you have a large frame) and then talk about what you two, together, will do.
Good luck. You sound like you have a sensible head on your shoulders, and that will be a big help in your quest to take off the pounds. [ Daimeera's advice column | Ask Daimeera A Question ]
runawayxlove answered Wednesday December 27 2006, 1:59 pm: hey, well last time i went to my doctors they said that a person that is 5`0 should weigh 100 pounds. from there on everytime you go up in height you should add 5 pounds. 5`1 = 105, 5`2 = 110, 5`3 = 115, 5`4 = 120. so according to my doctor you should be 120 pounds. some people are just big boned and are not made to have small figures. that could be you and theres nothing wrong with that. what i would do is just eat what you want to eat as long as its heathly, but eat smaller portions. also tone yourself up a bit. do situps and pushups. goodluck. becca08 answered Wednesday December 27 2006, 1:42 pm: Hey..well I wouldn't tell anyone that they're fat. At your age,. your body and metabolism is maturing. You may be a little pudgy at this age. As you get older, you're weight will ditribute itself evenly.
If you want to get back in shape, choose healthier choices of foods. Eat losts of fiber from vegetables. Eat whole grains. Eat fruits..they're nature's candy :) Instead of soup with noodles, drink the broth..etc.
But as i said, when you mature in age, your body will distribute itself.
This isn't something that's a big thing. Don't get too obsessed about your weight because over obsession leads to body body image and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. Bulimia isn't fun..I'm recovering from ir and it's hard..and the whole cycle was hell.
So just be sure to eat healthier and go for a walk every other day. Good luck! [ becca08's advice column | Ask becca08 A Question ]

xlickablex answered Wednesday December 27 2006, 1:10 pm: Try doing inside exercises and eat a little less. If possible, get some sugarless gum, or chew on fruit or something thats healthy. As for exercises, maybe some push ups, situps, anything you can do comfortably. You could jog a little inside. Instead of walking to dinner, or to the bathroom, jog there. Then you'll be exercising a little bit everyday and eventually begin to lose weight and also have a healthier body. Hope I helped and have a happy new year =] [ xlickablex's advice column | Ask xlickablex A Question ]
