the heavier side of thin

Question Posted Tuesday December 26 2006, 4:29 pm

I'm 16, and extremely muscular because i've been running track since I was 7. It's the off season and I've been slowly but surely gaining. I'm not fat but I dont feel like me. I want to lose a little but I'm not sure how? or what to eat? or how to exercise? whenever I work out, I feel like i'm just getting more and more muscular (bulky if you will) and that im not really getting rid of the stomach flab? What should I do?

Do you want to get bigger or do you want to slim down? It's one or the other- your body isn't a hybrid.

Lies:
-You will get well defined abs by working out and doing every ab exercises under the sun
-You can lose weight and get more muscle at the same time

Truth:
-If you are lifting weights or doing any resistance movement- you are adding muscle; Hence- weight
-You will not lose stomach flab by exercising your abs
-Your diet is what makes you or breaks you

You have to find out what your real true goal is and adjust accordingly. I am sure you gained an insignificant amount of weight and are just looking at details too much. Relax.

run anyways. just because you are not on a track doesnt mean you cant run. it is possible to run anyways plus changin your daily rutine little by little. part farther away from the store and walk to the door or dont eat as much snacks. also try new foods. (healthy) you never know unless you try them

You should try excersize programs that aren't specifically lifting weights. There are lost of ways to keep fit and have fun. Join an aerobics class with a friend, take a class (ie dance, gymnastics, something aerobic) or do something less formal, like become a dog walker, or a babysitter, running after little kids or huge dogs will definatly tire you out and keep you in great shape. Or buy a ddr and dance all night with your friends. Get out and hang with friends at the park, and stay active best you can. Keep excersizing, and stay off the couch, that will keep you feeling like your old self and your body wont be as stiff when track starts up next season! Good luck and I hope I gave you a great idea.
love,
