I can't handle stress very well.

Question Posted Sunday December 17 2006, 8:29 pm

Anytime there's a project that I'm working on for school, I get so stressed out about it until I'm done. It takes me longer than usual to go to sleep, the littlest things irritate me, I get in horrible moods, if I mess up just a little bit I feel like I'm about to cry, and things along the lines of that. If I'm asleep and I suddenly remember that I forgot to do something (It can be anything! It doens't matter.), I can't sleep for the rest of the night because I'm worrying about it. It's just things like that and I get very stressed out about it. Is there something that you can do to hadle it or something you can take to relieve stress?

I don't know anyone who has never been stressed. The bad thing about stress is that it will always be there. If you have a project, interview, meeting, party, test, date, or anything else, there will be stress. The important thing is to handle it well.

In order to handle stress, first look at your project and examine how truly important it is. In the grand scheme of things, you will hopefully notice that it means almost nothing. You may ace the project, you may fail it, but regardless, it won't matter 10 years from now. It won't matter 10 months from now either.

I agree with <3Love. You should keep something near your bed to write things down for you to remember. However, I would recommend using a dry-erase board instead to save paper and keep your room more clean (lots of paper on the floor or in your trash can isn't very appealing).

Another thing you need to remember is that if you try your best, there's no way anything bad will happen. So don't worry about small errors. We're all human and making mistakes is in our nature. If we didn't make mistakes, we'd be perfect, and we all know that nothing is perfect.

More things include taking long hot baths, relaxing in a jacoozi, going outside, eating healthy fruits, and getting 8 hours of sleep at night. I've heard that some herbs help relieve stress, but they aren't proven to help everyone.

You mentioned that it takes a long time for you to go to sleep. I suggest taking sleeping pills. My mom uses Melatonin and she says it works great. I heard that Tylenol PM helps, too, but that may focus more on pain than sleep.

Another thing to do is pray if you are religious and talk with family and friends. Having a support group always helps me when I'm stressed.

I hope I helped, and I hope you relax more. =]

Im exactly like this when it comes to homework and projects, and its all because I wait to the last minute and Im usually not ready for the project, and then I take out all my anger on my friends and family so thast not good. When your first assigned a project, do a little bit of work every day, and then when its due you will be done way ahead of time. If you wake up because you remmeber something you didn't do.. you could either do it really quick if its something simple.. or you could write it on your hand and then it will be off your mind.
Hope this helps

Take warm, soothing showers, eat a lot of fruit, drink something weet to comfort you. Go outside and take a deep breath If you think you're going to freak out. If you feel like crying, just let the tears fall. It'll be more stress to hold the tears in. Write down all your emotions in something like a diary. Punch a pillow, scream in a pillow, and then close your eyes and stay still to let the anger fly out of you. Maybe listen to music while you're doing so. If you want to stay awake to finish a project, don't drink coffee. I've heard apples actually work better, and they're a lot healthier too. I've had stress a lot, and those things really helped me when I was about to explode.

i tihnk maybe you shouldn't procrastinate (wait until last minute) to do things.. if you do. because if you do, then you rush more and you get stressed. if you plan out your project/homework early, then you probably wont get so stressed over it later. also you should just think about one situation at a time so your mind isnt all over the place. make sure you get things done before you go to bed, and if you don't, plan it so you can do it the next day.

your social life also might be the issue, because you might be worried over other things than school. but work should be your first priority.

when you feel frustrated, just relax and plan out what you are going to do than just winging it.

hope i helped

So i'm exactly like this... keep some paper and a pen by where you sleep and as you remember things that you forgot, write them down so you KNOW you wont forget and you dont waste time thinking about what you might forget to do. try to get it done in one day or do things early so you're not doing it last minute and just work work work! <3
