Have we met before zillions and zillions of years ago?

Question Posted Tuesday December 5 2006, 9:13 am

Are there any ideas in theories concerning relativity and the universe that at the end of eternity, time goes back to the beginning and starts all over again, following the same timeline of events?
I read about something like that a few years ago and was wondering if it had any base at all.

I know that such theories exist, but I don't know much about them. I pondered about this and discovered that there are several well-known theories related to it:

Matter and energy can be neither created nor destroyed, so all that exists now always has and always will exist. All the mass of the planets has always existed and everything we have created only adds to that mass. The forces that drive gravity, heat, light, etc. always exist in some form. There was no beginning and there will be no end; the universe as we know it is only one universe in a series of universes. Everything expanding and contracting in an infinite series of Big Bangs is like all of space breathing. In and out.

If eternity is time that never ends, nor has a beginning, then is there really an eternity? Also How is it possible for time to start over? Also, if it does repeat itself, how could it follow the exact same path it took before? Also, if it did start over, is there really such a thing as time then? If it did start over, if we were the generation that was at the very edge of a redo, what would happen to us? Would we just dissapear for a long time, or would we just start out at when we were born? However if that were true, and weve established that time does not exist, how can it know when and how I was alive before, when really there was no before?

it does have a base, its called the pulsating theory, or the repeating universe. also, the big crunch theory would be relevant. the biggest problem is, scientists have recently discovered that the expansion of the matter in the universe is accelerating, making a big crunch extremely unlikely. also, due to chaos theory, as well as a few other things to do with randomness, if the universe were to pulsate, it would not reexpand in the exact same way, let alone spawn the same people over and over again. theres also the religious aspect, if it does happen, it would mean it has happened, and it would do away with free will. theres also the fact that no system is 100% efficient, every time you consume energy some of that energy is released as heat, and so, in about 500 trillion years, all energy will be heat, and the universe will become entirely stagnant
