How quickly does make-up expire? I have this make-up set that I had for maybe a year or two now. I just recently found it in my closet. It has eyeshadow, blush, powder cake, and cover cream. How can i tell if these things are expired. If I put them on, will I get a skin reaction? Also it had mascara, lipstick and eyeliner (pencil & liquid). I threw away the mascara and liquid eyeliner because it was dryed up. What about the pencil eyeliner? Does that expire too?

I don't really know... but the answers you've got seem efficient. I just wanted to let you know, that you're first answer is completely wrong. DON'T EVER PUT YOUR EYELINER UNDER HEAT... trust me... I did this once and It TOTALLY melted!!!!!!!!!!! She has no idea what she's talking about. At first, I saw on a website that if you apply heat to your eyeliner, it glides on smoothly, well noooo that does not work! it just melts it.
As for you question- eyeliner, you should just sharpen it about 1 time a week, to get all of the bacteria off it. Mascara, use a wad of toilet paper to wipe off the mascara off the brush, so it get all of the bacteria off that too. Eye shadow- One person already said this and it was very good advice, to take toilet paper and just wipe off the eye-shadow on the top layer. Some make-up actually has the expiration date on it, and if they don't, and you're really concerned, then I suggest going to a local store to ask the manager.

Powder will probably be fine; eyeliner, you should sharpen before using (to get rid of any possible bacteria that grew on it) and eyeshdow, just scrape off the surface layer with a tissue or something & it should be fine) Just like nail polish gets gloppy after a year or so, it'll be hard to put on, but it won't cause you any harm to use it.
