It's an old wise tail. But yes, when your ears ring someone is supposedly talking about you. Just like when your hands are itchy, you're going to win money.

It's a superstition, just a fun little thing people say. However, I guess it can't really be proven. If it's true, then people have been talking to me since I got that ear infection months ago that doesn't want to go away for some reason.

i've always heard that if your ears burn, then someone is talking about you, but it's just one of those fun supersticious things to believe.
(not really true)

Nope, that's not true. But ringing ears ARE a symptom of a thyroid condition.

It's an old wives tale, that would be silly.

Mackenzie answered Friday November 17 2006, 8:21 pm:
There's no way of knowing whether it's true or not. It's just a game. When your ears begin to ring, you're supposed to say a number at random between 1 and 26. Whichever letter of the alphabet that number is, is the first letter of the first person you know whose name begins with that letter. Say you pick number 13. The 13th letter would be "M". So maybe you know a Melissa, or Michael, or whatever. It's just whomever springs to your mind first is said to be talking about you. Make sense? :)
