Okay, well I'm not the most popular person in my grade, I'm average, not a nerd but not popular. And, there's this popular girl that always hangs out with me at the football games, and I don't know why. Her name is Mackenzie, and at school, she's usually making fun of the fact that I'm dating Dane, or she's completely ignoring me. I don't even want to be friends with a popular person, it could lead to me being popular and then I'd lose all of my real friends. Besides, I don't want to be someone I'm not. So does anyone know why she's all the sudden hanging out with me?

or (not to be rude) maybe at football games, shes just lonely & sees you, so she talks to you.
idk? its hard to explain.
she could just be really friendly outside of school, but when her friends are around, shes a total jerk (absolute popular status quo)
holahayley56 answered Sunday October 29 2006, 9:45 am: Well, in my school, i'm probably the most popularest girl in school. Atleast thats what everyone says, I never really knew I was all that popular, but then when people would be like.."Yeah, who do you guys think is popular?" & then they'd name me first. I never even paid attention to it before. So, maybe you don't realize it either, & you're popular too. Thats good that you wanna stay with your real friends, I don't think I could ever give my friends up, if they told me it'd make me popular if I ditched them or something. Now, this may sound mean, but I know this how my friends act & such..if none of her friends are at the football game, she could just be using you, or she could think your really cool, & just wants to get to know you! I bet its the second one, inless shes like mean & stuff. We make fun of this one girl, whos dating this weird kid too. But, its only because we're kidding. Thats just the way my group is, were just joking around. Maybe she is too. Just stay nice to her & see how it ends up. If you notice that shes only hanging around you because none of her friends are there or something, then be nice to her & all.. but don't like get super friendly.
WorriedChick89 answered Sunday October 29 2006, 9:21 am: Maybe because deep down she thinks your pretty cool but she doesnt want to ruin her rep in school. Either that or she wants to be normal like you and not so popular. i have the same problem with this girl sarah who is like popular popular. i hope everything works out. When I was at school I had a similar thing happen to me - this girl suddenly started talking to me in P.E lessons but would avoid me and even make fun of me elsewhere. I guess she just didn't have any of her friends in the P.E class.
What I'm trying to say is, if she's just using you so she doesn't look like a loner, then humour her and talk back - what harms it gonna do? But if she genuinely needs a friend at the football games then there's no reason why you shouldn't hang out with her, unless you really really hate her!
Don't worry about the 'becoming popular' thing, if you stay grounded and don't give a damn what anyone else thinks, then you'll keep your old friends. Just see it as making a whole bunch of new friends ON TOP of your old ones.
And lastly, you won't become someone you're not just because your seen as 'popular'. Yeah, some girls are fake just to get popularity, but if people like you for who you are then there's no problem.
