Well, first of all, even though you're not too close with the girl you're friends with, just consider. Would you rather have the guy, or her? Because if she's not quite too understanding and acceptable of the whole situation, it might be a friendship lost.

Just lightly flirt with him though, whenever she's around, and drop little hints here and there. Maybe just give him hug, but make it big, and don't quickly let go like "oh we're done let go", haha. And just make alot of eye contact with him and smile at him alot, and just hang around him and crack jokes and everything.

And then whenever she's not hanging around you guys, up the anty. Compliment him and tell him he looks really nice today, and sit close to him maybe and just maybe poke him or nudge him ( which may result in a tickle fight ) and everything.

But if you really want to show him you like him before your friend does, why not just let him know how you're feeling? I mean, of course wait awhile, and send him those signals I told you about like hugging him and poking him and everything, but after awhile of hanging out and everything, maybe have a hangout with just the two of you, and just have a blast and everything, and as the day's coming to an end, just be like,"Hey, I want to tell you something that's been on my mind all day. I wanted to tell you, that I really like you, _____. And if you don't feel the same, it's cool. I really hope we can remain friends still, but if I don't tell you and find out at least how you feel, I'm gonna go nuts, hahahaha." ( So you're also lighting the mood by slipping in some humor. ) And if he likes you, great! And if he doesn't, better friends then nothing, right?

I think that might be a good idea to talk to your close friend about it, because for one, since she's his best friend, she can help you out alot by like, putting in a good word to him about you, and you two can hang out and invite him and some others along to give you more opportunities to show him you like him and everything.

I hope I helped.

Mm. Your in a tough situation. You can A] Tell the guy you like how you feel. Or B] Get over it, and be a good friend, and let her have a shot at it. It just all depends on how much you value you your friendship with the girl.
