Anything bad here?

Question Posted Saturday October 21 2006, 7:44 pm

I was pondering this for awhile, and I have really bad upper-digestive problems, mainly acid-reflux (like REALLY bad), and heartburn. I get a lot of spasms in my throat, frequent shortness of breath (especially exercising), and i'm always coughing. I am not sure if these symptoms are just from other reasons, but people keep telling me I might have cancer, or somewhere to the chance of developing it. Maybe asthma as well from my breathing problems. I get confused on this. And I need what to look for in cancer (like in the throat) and the symptoms of asthma (maybe other breathing conditions) also, if it does sound like I have anything to seek a Doctor with, what could I possibily have (in your educated opinion/guess).

I would like to hear that there is not anything wrong with me, but I keep getting on-going symptoms with breathing, and acid-problems. I'd say I had these for a year now. So please list me symptoms/signs for conditions I may have, and again, I have these symptoms:

*Frequent shortness of breath (especially when exercising during short periods of time and waking up/going to sleep)

*Breathing spasms, especially when waking up.

* Bad acid-reflux, heartburn, any acid-conditions, that actually occur several times a day, even WITHOUT junkfood, eaying before bed, WITH OTC meds, and all the other rules of treating it.

* Coughing frequently from the time I wake up to when I go to bed (I don't know about while I am sleeping).

So just help me out here. Thanks in advance! And I apoligize for how long this is, I just want the most accurate answers as possible. =)

Hope you've seen a doctor by now, if not please go right away. The symptoms you are describing are classic for cardiac or heart problems, but of course only a doctor can diagnose you. Asthma or respiratory problems alone do not usually cause acid reflux, but heart problems cause breathing difficulties and acid reflux.

Well, I deffinately reccomend going to a doctor, and tell him/her about any concerns you have. Actually, to me it sounds like you could possibly have crohns/colitis or maybe just acid reflex disease. Any one of those would explain the neck problems (because of the acid), but I'm not exactly sure about your shortness of breath..

Good luck, though. Tell your parents about this, and ask them to let you see a doctor.

OK first of all only a doctor can say if you have cancer. If you or one of your friends goes and looks up all the symptoms you have you will of course find
the same symptoms of some forms of cancer. You will also find a lot of the same symptoms with a cold or asthma or any number of other diseases. That is why
anyone with no medical knowledge really shouldn't even look at those sites! A person can get themselves all worked up about nothing if they want to.

Frequent shortness of breath could indeed be asthma. It is most often accompanied by wheezing. I don't exactly know how to describe it, it is a bit of a whistling sound. It may also be that you are out of shape. That also can cause shortness of breath. It is best to be checked by a doctor because it can be treated. Never mess with a breathing problem. See your doc.

I'm not sure what a breathing spasm is. Get it checked also.

Bad acid reflux needs checked by a doctor. It can erode (eat up) your esophagus if left untreated for years. I don't mean to scare you at all but it
could be contributing to your breathing problems. It may also cause your cough.

I think most of your problems may be caused by acid reflux. Please see a doctor about that. You should also tell him/her of your fears so you can stop worrying. That alone is worth the trip to the doctor. :)
