have you ever read the dave barry columns in the newspaper? if not, then that's okay too, but if you have, then you know what type of style is cool to use. i saw one article in my high school newspaper, and it really caught my attention... at my school, if they catch you with cell phones, it gets taken up and you have to pay 15 bucks to get it back. so a guy at my school wrote a column about what exactly that 15 bucks goes to and stuff. it was really interesting because he said that in total, the student body had 2000 dollars worth of fines. and he said that the cell phone fines went into the student activity fund, and even though it's for student activity, some of that money is used to repair the school. it was pretty cool. so basically, if your school has some random off-the-wall rule (like my school has the cell phone thing, and if you get caught with gum you get automatic after school detention) then write about that. because that's what people like to read because it pertains to them. good luck :)

I don't know if it's possible where you are, but when my daughters were on their school newspaper, they interviewed local councillors and the mayor. They also went to the local theatre, (by appointment), and interviewed willing stars that were appearing in shows or plays. It was a kind of 'Typical Day in the Life Of' thing.
Another story could be if anyone in school has made any notable achievement in something, fund raising, marathons, record breaking etc.
Hope that helps and good luck.

Yep, school newspaper stories are tough. Especially for sports pages.

Nonetheless, for features, cover the janitors, the custodians, the cafeteria workers; the people who make the school function on a daily basis.

For news? Find out when the theatre company is going to Districts and who will be competing. Did ROTC do well at States?

Opinion- never write a story about dress code. Ever. No one cares. Ask what gets students really pissed off about the school and write about it. Of course, interview the administration and present the flip-side, as well.

Just some basic idea. Hope I helped!
