I think that I am bipolar. I'll be happy and obnoxious one moment and then the next I'll feel so depressed that i want to die. How do you know if you're bipolar? What do I do if i am? How do I tell my parents?
Additional info, added Tuesday October 3 2006, 5:58 pm: Not exactly PMS either. It happens constantly and yes, it has led to a little cutting of the wrists.. Except I'm happy one moment, sad the next, then extremely angry. Or in any other random way. I've never been diagnosed, but yeah. First thing you should do is research it. Try to see if you have any of the signs. Go to the doctor and talk to them. Tell them whats going on and they might be able to tell you what you have. There is medication for it, but from what i've been told it is NOT for everyone.. so be careful if you do take any medication.
Hmm, when your telling your parents just don't be like "HEYYY, I think i'm bipolar!!".. maybe you should be like "Hey, can we go to a doctor.. I need to get checked out.. you see, I think I'm Bi-Polar." Just don't be all in their face "HEY, I THINK I HAVE THISSSSS".. yeah. None of this probably helped you, but yeah.

Just remember that this quiz is NOT diagnostic, that means it can't diagnose you and you can't know for sure unless you see a professional.
Do that to get an idea though.
Next step, definitely tell your parents if you think they'll be supportive. If you think they won't be, talk to your school counselor. Parents and school counselors can both get you to see a professional.
If you do have it, it might be important for you to get medication because it can get worse as years go by. So however you do it, make sure you talk to a trusted adult that can get you to see a professional.
Good luck, and if you're scared, try not to be. There's a lot of people who live normal lives with it and there are plenty of people who would love to help you if you just seek that help. [ pseudospork's advice column | Ask pseudospork A Question ]

It is likely that you are experiencing mood swings for some reason, but bipolar disorder probably isn't it. [ Orpheus's advice column | Ask Orpheus A Question ]

If you think you have it, you can tell your parents by saying "I looked up information on the Bipolar disorder, and some of the symptoms listed are what I'm going through right now". Show them the websites, explain what you feel sometimes, and they should be understanding of it. You can go to a doctor and he/she can determine if you have it or not...and go from there.
