myspace?

Question Posted Wednesday September 20 2006, 5:58 pm

if someone stole your picture off of a website and made a fake myspace of it .. is there any way possible for them to get in trouble with the cops or something about identity theft or some type of law. or do you just let it go?

There is a law, but it's so hard to get information due to the privacy act. The best thing to do is to email myspace and ask them to remove the picture. If you suspect the person is underage, which they could be...that's why they stole the picture. Simply tell myspace that you know the user is underage and they will remove it with no questions asked. Less headaches for you, and it will get the picture down faster, which is your ultimate goal anyway.

ugh...i hate stupid motherfuckers who do that. its so irritating. thats why the best thing to d is just "tag" your pictures.

anyways, i checked into it a while back. you apparently can't file an identity theft report since they didnt say they were you, they just were claiming a pic of you was them. but, one thing you can do is contact myspace and file a stolen picture claim, and they will take care of it.

The only thing you can do is to contact myspace and inform them of a breach of the code of conduct/etc.

let it go, it's just a picture for god's sake, but if they have you doing something nasty in the pic, or make it disgusting THEN they COULD get in trouble

Honestly, you probably won't even be able to prove who they are, let alone get them in trouble. About the only thing you can do is alert the Myspace webmasters to the situation, and they might or might not do something about it. Your most effective response might be to simply send the offender a message asking him/her to please remove the picture. It probably won't do any good, but it's more likely to work than anything else.

Bear in mind that ANYTHING you put on the internet can be effectively "stolen" by someone else, and they will probably get away with it. It sucks, but it's the nature of the beast, unfortunately.
