Mostly all animals are going to nibble on you. I know when I brought my hamster home he used to nibble on my finger a bit. I suggest not bugging him during the day, since they're a nocturnal animal. When you go to pick him up, talk to him first and pet him a little. Make him feel comfortable and that you aren't going to harm him. Once he feels safe with you, you'll be able to pick him up anytime you want. But for now you should just take things slow. Talk to him and pet him. Than once you notice he's calming down, picking him up and cup him in your hands. Than just pet him and talk to him some more. Once he gets used to you he won't nibble at you anymore. Just give him sometime. He's in a new environment, so of course he is going to be a little scared. Especially if he is around people he isn't used to or doesn't know. ♥

I had a dwarf hamster and she loved to nipple on everything and when I first got her she would just nibble on my finger and bite me. They do it for a lot of reasons. It might of been a little scared. The smell of soap probablly bothered your hamster but it's really no big deal. Hamsters bite but it'll stop once they get used to you.

i had one of those years ago. basically, washing you hands will upset it because of the smell of soap. basically, you should rubn your hands on whatever he uses for his dirt or whatever, like the ground or shavings or whatever.

and leave your hands on the ground, let him walk to YOU -- it also helps to maybe put a little treat on the palm of your hand

Hamster bites can be extremely painful. I had a hamster that managed to bite my finger through to the bone, (it had been frightened by a cat), it wouldn't stop gushing blood and I had to have antibiotics, so I can sympathise.
Try to avoid picking him up during the day, they are nocturnal animals and can get quite grumpy if disturbed before evening. Make sure your hands never smell of food or another animal. It sounds pretty gross, but if you rub your hands in the soiled area of the cage, his smell will mingle with yours and make him feel more secure. Try to give him as much attention as possible so he gets used to your presence and try to hold him firmly but gently. If he feels safe in your hands he will be less likely to react with his teeth.
I hope that helps and good luck.

It's not you, so you don't need to be afraid. They have moods just like any other animal or human and sometimes they don't want to be held or touched. It probably won't ever get used to your touch, but if you talk to it before you hold it and rub its back, it could help a little. Make it feel safe. Put your hands together, kinda like your cupping them [like your putting water in them or something if that makes sense] and put the hamster in your hands that way, so it'll feel safe. Anyways, they're gonna bite, there really isn't a way around it. Some are more nice than others though..good luck!

Honestly just about any animal with teeth will nibble or bite you and you have to just live with it or never hold the hamster. Him nipping you has nothing to do with your friend holding it. It has teeth and hes going to use them
