14/f/8th grade
I went to the dentist not long ago and they said I might want to get braces because one of my teeth were starting to overlap another, and I have a slight overbite. I don't really know if I should get them or not though. I don't want to be known as Metal Mouth all through highschool. But then again they will just get worse from here and I could have them off before my senior year, right..? But I have a boyfriend and you know we makeout and everything. Well we dont 24/7 we go to the movies and do other fun things. But can I kiss (not with my mouth closed) with braces?
Please help. I need to have some answers soon. I have to got back in a few days and I want to think these anwers over.

I had to get them in 5th grade. So I got them off by 8th grade. Now everyone has them in highschool, so you would fit in.

Your teeth might not be bad now, but if they get worse as you get older, you might have to get braces as an adult. And no one wants that ;)
I don't know about the making out thing, but I doubt you'll be known as a metal mouth. At my school, every other kid has braces, and pretty much all the most popular kids have them. Of course, every school is different, but I doubt you'd get made fun of.
xojessii answered Friday September 8 2006, 11:11 pm: You should get the braces, the outcome will be good. & for kissing i'v heard guys like kissing girls with braces better. & nobody will pick on you for having braces in highschool nobody will care and if they do pick on you they dont have a life. i mean they are braces, get over it. so yeah go get `em =]
ShadeMartin answered Friday September 8 2006, 11:05 pm: I had braces from 8th-10th grade, in most cases you don't have to wear them anymore than 3 years. I had a couple of boyfriends and let me tell you, they wanted to make out with me more than tehy were worried about my braces. Almost everyone has to wear them at some point in their lives. If you know you need them and you have an opportunity to get them now, don't pass it up. They're almost like a college education in that way. You really don't want to be that 30 something year old who had to get them b/c they put it off in school. You'll more than likely have them off by your senior year, but if not, ok, you'll have them off for college! I don't think your guy will mind. Everyone pretty much forgets that you have them after a couple of weeks, even you will, its weird. But one peice of advice- DON'T GET COLORED BANDS. THEY ARE RIDICULOUS. They're not fun or cute, they're tacky. Always get grey or silver!
clouded_bluee answered Friday September 8 2006, 11:03 pm: Well if you say your teeth aren't that bad you probably wont need braces one for 4 years, thats usuually for the worse cases. And yes you can still make out with braces, people do it all the time it just takes soem time getting used to.

Be careful at first cause you dont want to cut him or anything. Best thing though is to ask you dentist. [ Musical_Xeno's advice column | Ask Musical_Xeno A Question ]
