Question Posted Wednesday September 6 2006, 11:10 pm
My bf has one wart on his hand, the only wart he's ever had. If I hold his hand and make physical contact with the wart..can I get the virus that causes warts and then start getting it as well? Also, if he fingers me (using either the hand with the wart or the hand without the wart) can I get warts and more specifically, genital warts??
If he gets it freezed off can I still get warts??
I'm so freaked out. How can you possibly date people at this rate.
Infection can only occur when your hands are wet or you have a cut/abrasion on your hand. This is why many people who get a wart on their hand end up with a few--it just keeps going back and forth from hand to hand! If your friend or boyfriend has a wart his hand, there's a chance that you can get a hand wart, but first you need to have a cut on your hand (or your giving a really wet hand shake for some reason...).
And even then, only about 1 in 4 people are susceptible to hand warts, so you might not get them at all. And even if you do get it, you can just get them treated and they go away. Most people who are susceptible to hand warts will get them anyway simply because the HPV virus is so stubborn--it will stick on inanimate objects for long periods of time! However, most people who do get hand warts don't develop any more than a few.

The physician who froze mine told me all the information I needed to know about them. They are a virus in your system. There are a few types of warts. Most of which are not contagious. You can hold your b/f's hand and most likely will not get warts. If he gets it frozen off, then the wart will be gone for good. And you can not get the wart afterwards. Some cases, warts will go away on their own and others they will need to be removed such as the process you've name referred to as freezing. Also a process called burning. Not so common to have done anymore. Mostly freezing them away is done. But yeah, you most likely do not have anything to worry about, hun. Hope this helped. Warts can grow on all parts of your body. They can grow on your skin, on the inside of your mouth, on your genitals and on your rectal area. Some types of HPV tend to cause warts on the skin, while other HPV types tend to cause warts on the genitals and rectal area. Some people are more naturally resistant to the HPV viruses and don't seem to get warts as easily as other people.
Yes. Warts on the skin may be passed to another person when that person touches the warts. It is also possible to get warts from using towels or other objects that were used by a person who has warts.
Warts on the genitals are very contagious and can be passed to another person during oral, vaginal or anal sex. It is important not to have unprotected sex if you or your partner has warts on the genital area. In women, warts can grow on the cervix (inside the vagina), and a woman may not know she has them. She may pass the infection to her sexual partner without even knowing it.
**Will warts go away on their own?**
Often warts disappear on their own, although it may take many months, or even years, for the warts to go away. But some warts won't go away on their own. Doctors don't know why some warts disappear and others don't.
**How are warts on the skin removed?**
Applying salicylic acid--You can treat warts on places such as the hands, feet or knees by putting salicylic acid (one brand name: Compound W) on the warts.
*Duct tape treatment-- Covering a wart with duct tape may also help because it irritates the wart and the skin around it, causing the body to attack it. Cover the wart with duct tape for up to a week. Then remove the tape, soak the wart in water and rub it gently with an emery board or a pumice stone. Leave the tape off overnight, then repeat treatment until the wart goes away.
*Applying cantharidin--Your doctor may use cantharidin on your warts. With this treatment, the doctor "paints" the chemical onto the wart.
Do warts ever come back?
Most of the time, treatment of warts on the skin is successful and the warts are gone for good. Your body's immune system can usually get rid of any tiny bits of wart that may be left after a wart has been treated. Genital warts are more likely to come back because there's no cure for the virus that causes them and because warts are more difficult to control in a moist environment. If warts come back, see your doctor to talk about other ways to treat them.

It is not advisable for someone who has a wart to use that hand/finger on the sexual organs.
They can be gotten rid of quite easily using something like Bazuka or having it frozen off at the doctors surgery.
