It's not mean, it'll help him get over it. Also try giving him something to look forward to- a special treat in his lunch or a note. Give him a hug and a kiss before he leaves the car, remind him that it's a very short time and that you will be back at the end of the day, that you always have and will. Other than that, there's not a lot you can do. [ xokristabelle's advice column | Ask xokristabelle A Question ]

What you should do is explain to him that its just for a few hours and its going to be alot of fun. If you live in a neighborhood with some of the kids in his class maybe have them become friends so that he wont be as sad to go to school and he'll be happy to be able to see his friend at school everyday. Wehn you pack him a snack make it like his favorite snack. And when you drop him off remind him that you packed it for him.
And this whole crying thing should be over in about a week or two. He'll get used to going everyday.
TEENAGExHEARTS answered Thursday August 31 2006, 1:57 pm: what you have to make sure to tell them is that don't worry, mommy will always come back to pick you up. getting dropped off and then having your mom leave can be very scary for 5 year olds. you have to comfort them by telling them that mommy will always come back to get them. tell them that they are just there for a little bit and that you will bring them home later for dinner.

Tell him that everything is going to be OKAY and that school is a fun learning experience that will someday make him/her a lot of money! (like they'll get a nice job if they do good in school)
Comfort him by hugging him and give him a big kiss!
