If you are 16 years old and live in New York and get pregnant, what are your options of getting rid of the baby with out your parents knowing? Any help is greatly appreciated.
DancinCutie08 answered Thursday August 31 2006, 3:03 pm: there really aren't any. abortion tech. is illegal without parents consent anywhere if you are under 18(although some places still do it) also if you are only a week or two along there is also the morning after pill. Either way it is best for your parents to know because there are often side effects to abortion that your parents have to know about.
Tulipg17 answered Thursday August 31 2006, 12:35 pm: Go to a planned parenthood and they will help you explore your options. Abortion is most definitely your best bet, and there is no way your parents will have to know unless you tell them. The side effects are not nearly as bad as you may have been lead to believe, and more recent research actually has debunked the myth that there is any relation between abortion and an increased breast cancer risk. Planned parenthood with answer those questions as well. [ Tulipg17's advice column | Ask Tulipg17 A Question ]

Early-term surgical abortion is a simple procedure. When performed before the 16th week by competent doctors — or, in some states, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and physician assistants — it is safer than childbirth. [21]
As with most surgical procedures, the most common surgical abortion methods carry a small risk of potentially serious complications. These risks include: a perforated uterus, perforated bowel or bladder, septic shock, sterility, and death. The risk of complications occurring can increase depending on how far the pregnancy has progressed, but remains less than complications that may occur from carrying the pregnancy to term.
The abortion-breast cancer (ABC) hypothesis (also known as ABC link) posits a causal relationship between induced abortion and an increased risk of developing breast cancer. In early pregnancy the level of estrogens increases, leading to breast growth in preparation for lactation. The abortion-breast cancer hypothesis proposes that if this process is interrupted with an abortion – before full differentiation in the third trimester – then more relatively vulnerable undifferentiated cells could be left than there were prior to the pregnancy, resulting in a greater potential risk of breast cancer. The hypothesis, however, has not been scientifically verified, and abortion is not considered a breast cancer risk by any major cancer organization.
