summer reading

Question Posted Monday August 7 2006, 9:51 pm

how do you guys get your summer reading done? the library has a hold list of books &
going to the bookstore for extended periods of time is hard to do &
borrowing from people is annoying
do you just buy the book? i dont like to since i might not like the book or reread it ever again.

Buy the books from your local used bookstore-- they'll be cheaper and you'll have less competition for them.

If your used book dealer doesn't have them, try the used section on amazon ( sometimes the prices there can be amazing) or www.abebooks.com

The books you are assigned for summer reading are really good books to own because they are usually core classics that may come up again eventually.

i got my book from school this year but things i've done in the past are: buy the book, go to half-price books & get the book, borrow from the people a grade ahead, order the book from another library (in my area they'll find in at another library for you), read sparknotes. let me know what book it is i might be able to help. <3

yea sounds to me if you don't like sitting in the library or borrowing from people. then you might as well buy the book. Sometimes you can find it online but not for all books.

I buy the book, because then I can reread it, write in it, or easily refer back to it.

If you aren't willing to borrow or use the library then it looks like buying is your only opition left. Finding a decent second hand bookstore in your area would be an absolute godsend.

A lot of summer reading books are sort of 'classics' and you can come across a good many of them at a second hand book store for about half the cost of buying them new. If you are done with them you might even be able to sell them back to the store for a bit of money.

That is how I always managed my summer reading, but now with the internet, you have even more options for finding used books.

Good Luck.

i just buy the book. it's only like 8 bucks, and if the book sucks then i can take it back or sell it to a used book store. you can probably even get it at a used book store and then you're not losing that much money. and if you do buy the book and it sucks and you can't get rid of it, you can always sell it the next year to one of the kids that are younger that have to read that book for summer reading.

I buy the books, and I know that I may not like them or reread (ugh Heart of Darkness),but I like having books (I guess that's the nerd in me).

What I would suggest is...buying them on amazon.com..they're cheaper and if anything when ur done w/ them...see if you can sell them to other people who are going to need to read them.

Hope that helps!
